Drip Drip Drip…Leak Leaving You Wet?
Happy new year! The winter months are upon us and so is the wacky wetter weather (try saying that ten times fast.) The phones at 1-800 LEMON LAW are ringing with many distressed drivers who are dealing with water leaks. On this blog, we have discussed why it is so important to continue to bring these leaks to your service manager’s attention, especially since leaks can lead to mold and mildew.
Many vehicles are suffering with clogged sunroof drains and other component failures which are causing water to leak onto drivers side and passenger side floors, and in some cases, even contaminate electrical components. We are also seeing a great deal of water leaks in trunks and spare wheel wells.
If you have a GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee, please be advised we are currently handing/have handled hundreds of water leak claims involving these types of vehicles. But, you are not alone. This past month alone, we have opened water leaks claims against six other manufacturers as well. A leak can occur in any vehicle. Remember that in this tough economy, we are continuously seeing manufacturers cutting warranty repair costs. Be as specific as possible with regard to when you noticed the leak and what areas of your vehicle appear to be affected. Furthermore, it is essential that if you smell or see mold or mildew, you immediately bring it to you dealer’s attention and if necessary, you request that carpeting and seats be replaced. Your family’s health and the value of your vehicle both could be at risk.
In most circumstances, if you report a water leak or a leak-related problem (mold) to a dealer three times under original or extended manufacturers warranty, you very well may be entitled to a full or partial refund, or a new vehicle under State and/or Federal Law (even if the leak is fixed). If this applies to you, and you are interested in 100% cost-free legal assistance, please contact us to discuss your rights.

I recently got a 2007 Acadia used, the first day I got the vehicle. I got a terrible headache, that medication couldn’t help. This headache happen after I had been in the vehicle for about an hour. I thought the previous owner must have smoked in the car, and that is why I got the headache. Well the second day we had the car, it rained and my fiance told me that when he was leaving his job he noticed the leaking above the passenger and in the floor boards of the car. I know that mold can contribute to headaches, when we got the car we were offered a warranty and declined because we have only been owners of honda’s and the warranty is never needed. Since doing some research I believe we have been stuck with a lemon. The next day it rained again and the leaking was worse. I need to know what I can do to fix the problem and if I can have a gmc dealer fix the problem that seems to have many articles online but no recalls to fix the problem on the 2007 Acadia SLT.
Please Help.

I bought my 2008 Saturn Outlook in May 2008 and one year later I am having problems:
May 18, 2009:
I live in Florida it has been raining for days here. We need the rain but because of all this rain…my 2008 Saturn Outlook is now leaking. It all started with me hearing a swishing noise like there was a bucket of water in the car and every time I turned a corner I could hear it swish to one side. Then yesterday I noticed that the driver’s side floor under the emergency brake was wet and dripping with water. Then I heard the swoosh and looked in the back and there was water dripping from the light fixtures over the third row of seats and the third row of seats was covered in water. I touched the sunroofs to see if they were wet and the area around them was dry. Then moments later my parking assist indicator light and message starting going off at random while I was driving as was my emergency brake light indicator. I called my husband and he called Saturn to make an appointment for me today.
May 19, 2009:
As I got in the truck this morning to head to Saturn for my appt. I notice the water on the driver’s side floor near the emergency brake was still dripping. The light fixture in the back didn’t seem to be leaking at this time. However, as I pulled out of my driveway water gushed from the headliner on the passenger side all over the dashboard and the glove box and then I noticed water dripping from the driver’s side airbag opening on the column next to the windshield. And again my parking assist indicator starting going off at random and my emergency brake like as well. I left my car at Saturn of Brandon this morning and the service advisor check and told me that there are no known recalls for my truck year/model. She said sometimes the drains around the sunroof get clogged and need to be cleaned out to fix the problem. She was not sure if she could give me my truck back today. I have a loaner. After reading all the posts on this forum, I am not optimistic that they can fix my problem for good. I hope my outcome is better and less stressful than some that I have read here. I really do not want to have to go to the dealer over and over again to have the same problem repaired only for it to happen again. If the car leaks, it’s probably a lemon -right?
What should I do?

I have been experiencing electrical issues and water leakage with my 2008 Saturn Outlook. It all began 3 months ago with random loud ringing of bells. Then moments later my parking assist indicator light and emergency brake light indicator shows malfunctions on the message display center for at least 45 minutes while in route! On many occasions it may last until I reach my destination. That worries me, because it may really be a time when the system is trying to warn me, then for me to only disregard it as another malfuction. I have also experienced “pulling” from the vehicle. The car could not drive faster than about 10 MPH, even though I had my foot pressed down on the pedal! Of course, each time the dealership is closed (or closing) and I am unable to drop it off for them to witness this annoying behavior considering the matter clears it self up magically. Upon inspection on two occasions, I was told that the diagnostic test showed no malfuctions and all is fine. Huh? I actually stopped bringing it in for that issue because I felt they believed I was going insane!
A month ago, I pulled off from work only to have a gush of water pour out from under the emergency park brake. As I turned corners you could hear the swoosh of water running from one side of the vehicle to the other side. Luckily for me, the soaked floor was my proof of sanity, and GMC repaired (or patched) a “clog sunroof drain” although neither sunroofs held no visibility of water puddles. Two weeks later, I began hearing weird random hissing noises while driving as I have heard prior to the leakage. I also notice the passenger window has a good 15 second delay of rolling down on demand. Sometimes I have to press the control down a few times for it to respond. There are even times, when I am asked if I am accidently hitting the passenger window button because it will roll down partially on its own!!!
A week ago my nightmare returned. After a heavy rain storm, my co-worker and I drove to the store, then ALL the bells suddenly began to ring during the whole ride til returning. This time it was more embarrassing than annoying when asked why am I having such problems with a brand new car. Today has put the cherry on top. While running the car through the car wash, water began pouring out again from under the emergency parking brake, THEN suddenly from the windshield (!) and passenger and driver side windows. I called GMC (# is on speed dial) their response was the service department is closing so bring it in tomorrow of course.
On top of the deceitful staff and General Manager of GMC, I am truly disappointed in the quality of the Saturn Outlook. Reliable it is NOT. After losing another day of work, tomorrow makes it my third service for repairs for the same issue even though I have experienced electrical issues numerous of times. It is especially disappointing with now knowing they knew all along GMC and Saturn were having issues with the sunroof. I was once a proud owner of Saturn, but it seems I have more headaches (literally) than I do smiles when it comes to such poor quality make of this crossover. My concerns now after the quick patch, is the underlying electrical problems that await me after the warranty expires. Also, the water damage leading to mold.
After reading other posts, I too am not optimistic that they can fix my problem for good and am now researching my rights under The Lemon Law for Virginia. With my hectic work schedule, at times it is impossible to leave the car for service considering they don’t offer loaner cars (unless kept over night) even though they may keep it for 10 hours out of the day. It’s unaffordable for me to continuously pay for loaner cars out of pocket for a problem they can’t fix permanently, but nor can I afford multiple repair service on an existing issue once the warranty expires. I guess I lose money either way. And to think I traded my BRAND NEW Pathfinder for this junk…. HELP!

I bought a 2009 – 250CC BOSS SPORT SCOOTER from USA WHOLESALE SCOOTERS in Ft. Lauderdale FL. I’ve had this bike now for 6 mo. and all that I have had is TROUBLE.
My windshield came broken, the bike would die out or not even start, the battery had to be recharged, etc…, I’ve been in touch with the people at USA WHOLESALE time after time trying to see if I could get some thing done about this.
Now, as of last night this makes the second time that the scooter has quit working and I can’t get anywhere with the people who sold me this bike.
Question;
Does the LEMON LAW cover motorcycles/scooters or having this bike replaced or the money back that I spent on this scooter?
For I’ve not happy with this bike since I’ve had it. This is the ONLY TRANSPORTATION that I have depend on for I don’t drive a car.

My 2007 Jeep Commander started leaking approx. 8 months after we bought it brand new. We have had 4 new windshields and a new sunroof installed, as well as other things (rerouting the drain etc) but the leak is worse. EVERY time it rains, water RUNS out of the light above the passenger door, and out of the grip handle. It runs on the passenger seat and the rug and they are both permanently stained. We have taken it to different dealerships and they are never able to figure out the real issue and how to fix it. We also contacted the Lemon Law attorneys for PA, sent them ALL of our invoices, numerous pictures, and a letter. They proceeded to contact Chrysler to let them know we were seeking their legal advice. We were then contacted by a lady for the Lemon Law attorney in PA and were told we do not qualify because we are over in miles and have owned the Jeep for longer than a year. We were not able to PROVE the leak started BEFORE our year anniversary. SO, now Chrysler wants nothing to do with us, the dealerships wants nothing to do with us, and we have a TWO year old (as of June 2009) $40,000 car that fills with water every time it rains!!!

Leased a 2007 Jeep Commander from Fitzgerald’s in Clearwater, Florida. Since Fitzgerald’s is no longer Chrysler-Jeep, I have to go to Dayton Andrews Chrysler in Clearwater. My jeep developed a horrible leak. When it rains I get a standing puddle of water on the floor on the driver’s side. I took it in and Dayton Andrews said it’s a maintenance issue and said it will be $100 to blow out a sunroof drain line because it’s clogged with debris. I argued there is nothing in the owner’s manual addressing this “maintenance” and pointed out that there are also several service bulletins issued by Chrysler addressing this issue. They said this is the customer’s responsibility. No wonder Chrysler is having problems. I guess my next step is to contact an attorney and the attorney general. Stay away from the Commanders and avoid Dayton Andrews in Clearwater at all cost.

Hi – I have a 2007 Saturn Outlook that began leaking approximately 6 months after I received it, brand new. I have continued to experience a lot of the same problems as others on this site. The leasing agency is in TX, I lived in SC when I leased it, and now live in TN which is where most of the service has been conducted.
Who do I contact regarding lemon laws and this particular car?
Thank you.

I have had my 2008 Staurn Outlook for 13 months. In that time I have taken it in twice and will be going for a third time to resolve water leaks. The first was the spare tire compartment. It was filled with water and the mat was soaked. The second was the headliner near the garge door opener was soaked and leaked into the center console destroying my cell phone. Now i have water on the passenger side floor. What can I do? tired of the back and forth.

Any advice for a 2006 Jeep Commander owner who doesn’t live in the states listed above? I’m on my 3rd dealer contact, and vehicle is still under factory warranty. Chrysler refusing to fix it.
I’m in Texas.
The water is absolutely leaking through the sunroof, and then back up into the headliner, and down through the side pillars as mentioned up above. Dealer says the sunroof is supposed to leak, and that since the drain tubes are clogged it’s not their problem. I’m apparently supposed to believe that unclogging these very small drain tubes is user maintenance, and that I’m not supposed to park under trees.
Thanks for any advice.
Regards,
Jason

I have a 2008 Saturn Outlook and recently had some major leaking problems (like having to hold a cup to catch a lot of water!) I turned the corner and my car sounded like a bucket of water sloshing from side to side. That same evening, water started leaking through all the seams in the front of my car (ie: the airbags on the side columns, the 3 buttons used for remote openers, my visor and the emergency brake area etc… ) I also had warning lights and alarms going off because there was water in my electrical system! I had the car towed to the Saturn dealership and they claimed it was a problem with the drain flaps. They said they removed the flaps to solve the problem. They also had to remove the carpet from my car and suck out all the water then let the carpet dry (still drying…).
I asked about replacing the drains with longer ones which seams to have helped in some situations. Saturn didn’t feel that was necessary; removing the flaps should do the trick.
I mentioned to the dealership that I have read about this problem online and it appears that it had happened to several other people from around the country. Saturn ‘wasn’t aware that there was any problem’ (even though some owners have filed a lemon law claims and others are getting attorneys involved to resolve their issues with the Outlook).
I called the Saturn Corporation to ask if we could discuss an extended warranty. I love this car and I wanted to know that if I kept it and down the road something happened related to the current water dammage, I would be covered. Saturn’s reply “We understand your frustration however, Saturn is not prepared to take this any further.” After a bit of ‘discussion’ they hung up on me! What?
So, I am here to post my ‘opinion’ on the Saturn Outlook and the HORRIBLE Customer service.
It is a beautiful car and overall I love it. I just wouldn’t recommend it and I wouldn’t buy it if I had the choice again.

I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee. Whenever there is a hard rain, the floor gets really wet (as in touch the carpet and it goes squish). It’s primarily where the floor joins the exterior walls of the vehicle. Although this last rain, there were damp spots in the back, along the sides, as well as near the middle hump. There is no sun roof. The windshield has been replaces. In fact, I had a tarp covering the windshield (thinking it was that) because I knew how bad it can leak during heavy rainstorms. There is no sunroof. There is no interior evidence of water draining down, except the floor carpets being soaking AND the cloth along the roof being damp (my visor froze to the roof overnight due to below freezing temperatures).
I have had the water test done at my mechanics in the past and they couldn’t find the leak.
Anyone have thoughts?

I am reading dozens and dozens of duplicate consumer compaints that are idfentical to mine that I am experiencing with my 2007 Jeep Commander. I bought it NEW leftover in July 2008…within a few months I started experiencing the leaks everywhere and puddles on both passenger and driver floor well. Water comes though the grab rails over dash and through the rear view mirror, into the speaketrs, etc…there has been constant water sitting in car… I cannot keep up with it!. I have brought my car in 4 times now (3x to dealer in NY and now it is at dealer in CT as I type this)…..the last time prior to this week…I brought it in on 8-29/2009..and it started leaking again a week later…the dealer would not respond back to me, despite my request to speak to the head serivice manager and GM of the dealership!!. I bought it to a CT dealer hoping that it would make the diff…He now called me and said it is not a problem othere than I have not been cleaning the tubes…He said there is nothing they could do…This is the exact BS I received 3 x prior from the other dealer…. My cars warranty expires in 150 miles, which will be this week after I drive back home to NY…It is clear that all dealers have been vowed to silence and trained to just throw it back on customer and say it is there fault that they are not cleaning the tubles… I have never heard of anything so obsurd that I spend 45k on a car and i have to clean the tubes out every day t0 prevemt leaking…for a car that had been engineered incorrectly!!.
Am I entitled ot get a new car or what…since they obviously say there is nothing that Can do…nor Will do??…since I have reported this to Jeep dealers 4 times now…under orig 36k warranty??
To top this off i have been batteling sever asthma for the past 2 years and it is never improving…now I know why!…There has to be severe mold in this car with all the water that has sat there for long periods at a time. I need help and quick…Any advice??

Won’t recap all the horror stories here, but suffice it to say that my wife’s 2006 Jeep Commander is on it’s third visit to the Jeep dealership over this sunroof leaking issue. Car has 55,000 miles on it, under warranty (expires at 60,000). Car was perfect before the leak issue developed last month.
Not sure if I have any recourse here, but could you recommend someone in Southern California (Los Angeles / Glendale area). The leak is one thing, but now I’m staring down the throat of a mold / mildew problem and electrical issues down the road…

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////feFebruary 13, 2010
I purchased a 2007 Chevy Equinox on March 25, 2007.
On Sept. 3, 2009, my husband had a heartattack. On the way home, late at night from the hospital, my car speedometer read the highest speed as I drove home. If I put my foot on the gas pedal, the needle would move to 70 or 80 miles per hour. I was on a highway, the speed limit is 50. I know I was going 50 mph or a little less. I called the dealer ship the next day eventhough the problem had cleared. I was told by the Service Dept. that yes, this problems happened to other Equinox cars. He said that it happened again and it continued to show the speedometer was incorrect. They did not want to fix it now as ithey would have to remove the entire dashboard to repair it. Little did I know this would be such a walk in the park.
One month ago, we heard clunking under our car when we backed up or stopped at a stop sign. We called a new Chevrolet dealer which had been recommended by our dealer soon after our dealer went out of business after 102 years. We took the car in, it stayed there two days and the problem was fixed. We were elated that that was the only problem with our beautiful car.
We have been in drought for three years. After a few days of rain, we could smell mildew but we could not find water in our car. After 10 days of rain, water filled the floor in front of the back seat. We took it to the dealer. They kept it for two weeks, they said the manufacturer had left some gaps on the body. The rear lights were removed, the holes sealed and the lights were replaced. The storage well for the spare tire had been filled with water and after ten days it overflowed.
The mold and mildew smell is unbearable. We can see mildew and rust on the spare tire, walls of the storage well. I too have asthma which is now at a level where I have to use Advaire to control. I thought that the asthma was smoke related, now I know mildew has been affecting me for two months. We picked up the car Feb 12, 2010. We took it back today, Feb. 13,2010, to say that the smell is so strong that we can barely stand to be inside the car without the windows being open in 61 degree weather. Please let me know what you think. Califoarnia does have a lemon law, I hope it helps us. Please let me hear your comments or advice.
Do we have recourse?

2006 Jeep Commander started leaking after hard rain. Water filled up passenger side foot well. Dealer said to check the sunroof drains. I’m going to blow them out and then hope for the best. Any additional advise?
March 19th, 2010 at 9:33 am
2008 Saturn Outlook started leaking water from the sunroof 3 months after I purchased it. Took it to the Dealership where I purchased it from, they said the clamps came off the hose that goes to the sunroof. 2 Months later the same thing happened. My dealership had closed so I took it to another dealership. They said the hoses were too short so they replaced them. I told them to replace the carpet because the car smelled like mold. They said they did but, the infact did not. This Monday 3/15/10. I get into my car it won’t start and all the light on the dash light up. I call a GM dealership in my area they have to come out and get the car because, the other dealership I took it to also closed.
When they came pick up the car, I went to get something out of my car and I dropped it on the floor. The whole entire carpet one the passenger side and driver side was soaked. The dealership that now has the car says they cannot find the water problem but, the electrical the dash is damaged and I had Mold all in the car. I have a 2 year old and I have asthma. We have both been very sick this year. We couldn’t figure out why we have been so sick. That could of been the reason. Now the Dealer says they don’t know when I will have my care back maybe 2-3 weeks and they can not garauntee that they can even find the leak. Now that all this Damage has happen to the car this car will never be the same and it is likely I will always have this problem. I called Saturn and They said they are going to keep in contact w/ the dealer. I am worried This will never be resolved. Any Advise would be great! Should we get a lawyer?
March 28th, 2010 at 2:04 am
Thank you for all your. We took our 2007 Equinox back to the dealer in Fremont, Ca. The mildew and mold odors had not gone away. They sprayed the car with something to stop the mildew and mold. It smells fine now. I am sure that if we ever sell the car that we have to disclose the problem, even if it is now fixed. Luckily, my husband loves the car or it would have gone back. I think that we do have a lemon, but we have had the car three years and we would have been charged for the use of the car for those three years. I could not buy another car again and I don’t want a used car because we bought used cars for years. Some came with lots of problems, some were very good cars. I just hope the electrical in our Equinox is not damaged. Does anyone know how long it could take to show signs of water damage to the entire electrical system? By the way, the asthma is better.

I purchased a used 2008 Saturn Outlook in January and now that the spring rains are here, I have quite the leaking problem. We had a few rainy days recently and WOW, the whole passenger floor side of the vehicle was drenched. The driver side leak looks like it is coming through the upper part of the door, but WHY? The seats have water spots on them (both driver and passenger sides). I don’t know what to do since this is a used vehicle purchase. What are my options?

We purchased a new 2008 Jeep Commander. When it rains it leaks! We have had it in 3 times in the first year and a half to replace the stereo, speakers, nav system that short out when the water runs in. The dealership claims they can’t find any water even though I have brought it in with smoking, crackling live electrical issues from water. (scary might I ad) It is scheduled for a 4th visit at a different dealership, as reccomended by Jeep. Apparently jeep likes to keep replacing expensive nav and stereo systems rather than recall for a valid leak issue. During the times that the car is not in for repairs we are simply needing to take it back in, but alos in need of our vehicle,as it has never stopped leaking or shorting out the electrical. It will literally have a working stereo for a day or two after we get it back, only to all short out again from water days later. I am hugely disappointed with our jeep to say the least.

I purchased my JEEP COMMANDER SPORT 2 months ago as a certified preowned vehicle. The moonroof was not working or the remote start.
After 3 visits, they fixed the remote start and after a month and a half in the shop and the dealership calling in an engineer from Chrysler, the roof leaks worse than ever. I now have grease all over the headliner and a broken rocker panel dress cover form the tech. My carpet is molding on the driver side. They have had the vehicle in their shop more than I have been able to drive it. It has leaked from day one.
They owe me a new JEEP. Too many people are all over the web and on YOU TUBE even expereincing this same design flaw.
What are my legal options here. It,s not the dealerships fault but a definite recall and safety issue with CHRYSLER Corp.

Check with your authorized Jeep dealer to see if there is a silent warranty or TSB to address the issue.

My 2008 Outlook developed early problems with sunroof leaking. Dealer said it was fixed. Yesterday, engine would not shut off. Turned key, and engine kept on running for about 15 -20 seconds. Today battery dead, rear wiper running and could not shut off after I jumped it to start, and engine again would not stop running when I got it to GM dealer for repair. Called now GM dealer as Saturn dealer is gone. Got call that fuse box inside under console was wet and correded. Service advisor asked if I spilled something in there. Give me a break. With over 5 TSB from GM on water leaks, is he trying to blame me for what I have found in just 30 min of search is a chronic problem with the body design. Told me part was over $700.00. Fact is, water problem caused a condition that posed a serious safety threat: Inability for motor to shut off. I am not only due a full repair, but with this now being a safety issue and not just a leak issue, i thing a moverment for a national recall of these units is in order.

My 07 Jeep Commander began leaking in May 2010. We bought it new in Apr. 07 The same problem I’m seeing here is happening, filling up passenger side foot well. I have taken it in and am getting new carpet, however the engineers have yet to find a fix. They know why it is leaking, The A/C valve that brings in outside air allows the water in. but have not been able to create a permanent solution. We are in negotiation for a repurchase but I still feel as though they should be paying off our balance on the loan. I believe that the engineers at chrysler do not want to fix this because the commander has been discontinued…How do I get them to pay the 15 thousand that I still owe my bank? Also a repurchase is a joke since they do not have a comparable vehicle in their inventory for the 33,000 they are offering.

Please help!!!! I have taken my car in for routine service visits and would ask each time if there was any issues or recalls with my car but was told by the service rep each time no that everything was ok. My problem occured on 7-6-10 when I took my car in for hail damage repair. After the car being at the repair shop for almost 3 weeks it would not start. The repair shop then found my battery covered in water and after serveral calls to Saturn service department because all the lights going off and on they finally get the car to started. The repair shop takes the car the Saturn service department to find out there is a problem with the sunroof not draining properly. The repair man said when he went to turn the car off it kept running without the key. I then spoke with the service department and she said that this is something that didn’t occur over night and this has been going on for sometime. Now the car has a wet, moist smell and then tuesday after getting gas I get back in the car and the radio is completly blank and it is flashing park assist off on the dash. It stayed that way for about 1 min or 2 then everything went normal again. WHAT SHOULD I DO????? VERY DISSATISFIED SATURN CUSTOMER!!!!!!

2006 Jeep Commander (purchased brand new from lot in 2007). Same problems stated above. Sunroof leaks, rain runs down and drips from hand grips, continues down under the dashboard – damaging wiring. We’ve had the speakers replaced once, as well as the drainage tubes. We were told that the sunroof is not included under the additional Lifetime Warranty we purchased, but the drainage tubes are. Dealing with dealership is like beating our heads against the wall, so we have used duct tape around the sunroof. That worked last year, but today after a short heavy rain – more water leakage. Our reports/repairs begain within the first year of purchase and we smell mold/mildew (its disgusting).
In Texas too,

We had heavy rain in Woodbridge VA last night and for some unknown reason the sunroof on my 2006 Jeep Commander decided to open up (first time this ever happened) and this morning I found standing water in my car. The sunroof will not close now; it remains stuck in the open position. I bought a Chrysler extended warranty plan, should I report this as a Lemon or take it in for service?

Take it in for service under your warranty.

I have been driving my 2009 Acadia for a little over a year. In Feb. of 2010, after all the Chicago snow began melting, i noticed a strong moldy odor in the car. At the time i figured my kids probably left a sippy cup under the seat or something…then after a complete detail of the car, i realized one day as i was leaning out of the driver side window at the ATM that the smell was coming out of the window panel. I brought it into the dealer and after 3rd visit (once for them to order the parts, twice for them to tell me they ordered the wrong parts, and third time for them to “fix” the problem) the mold smell is still there! Looks like i will have to take the car back 2 more times before they will actually do something to fix the problem.
In the meantime, after reading some other posts, I am seriously wondering if the mold is to blame for the headaches i have been experiencing for the last 8months. I am a healthy 26year old with no previous health related issues and in the last 6months have had a MRI, blood work and been on several medications (that havent helped AT ALL) to treat the headaches. Coincidence????

I bought my 2008 pre-owned certified Jeep Commander Feb. 2010. A few months later water on the passenger side floor. Good thing as soon as I bought the vehicle, I bought weather tech floor mats so, nothing has happened to the carpet. I took it in the first time I saw the leak they had it for 2 days and couldnt find anything. I got my windshield replaced because they said maybe it’s leaking. There is still water. The windshield guys diagnosed it for me saying it’s a common problem and should be recalled that water comes in from the fresh air vent. I made a appt. for the Jeep techs to re-diagnose it. I swear if they don’t fix it i’m going to Freak out! My engine feels like it’s starting to stall also. What a pain in the butt! I won’t buy another if they can’t seem to fix the vehicles they make.

Like everybody else, my 2007 Jeep Commander floods my passenger side floor everytime it rains. I gag while driving in my car from the heavy smell of mold. Now, the mold has gotten so bad that I can not even turn the air on in a 100 degree weather because my vents are blowing out a very obvious smell, MOLD! I have spent nearly $1000 just on detailing my car alone, and I also have no other choice but to drive my 4yr old boy around in this vehicle. Like everyone else, I was told that I needed to keep my sunroof drain clean, blah blah! I am so frustrated! This SUV definitely needs a recall! What do I do??

Same, same, same leaky problem. 2007 commander leaking through pillar handles and soaking up floor wells. Chrysler says they are not familiar with this leak problem,so they brought in a “leak specialist”. Now the specialist says the glass needs to be replaced at a cost of $355 (there’s nothing wrong with glass). Then, after that, the drains have to be flushed at extra charge. why not include with the charge of replacing glass??? Please help. What should we do?

Jaime, You do not mention if you had any repairs covered under warranty.

After having my 2006 COMMANDER, for about month, it rained for the first time and the driver’s floor is soaked and water is dripping through the hand rail. I’ve came across several JEEP forums where hundreds of people are complaining about water in their jeeps. I have kids riding with me and would hate for them to miss school after getting sick from MOLD growing in the COMMANDER. What is JEEP doing to resolve this ongoing problem?
September 19th, 2011 at 3:09 pm
Very hard to say Key. Sadly, there is no recall scheduled currently.
September 24th, 2011 at 9:44 pm
I bought a 2006 Mercedes Benz (M-B) S430 last September 2010. This past May in 2011 I noticed that the lights came on in the car, which was parked in the my garage after a car wash. Didn’t think much of it because I only drive the car on weekends and on trips. However, in July of 2011, I drove on a thousand mile round-trip, and as I was returning home the car wouldn’t start. Nothing! My nephew Googled the web and found that water could have leaked in and shorted out the SAM unit, under the passenger left rear seat. The rear tail lights came on and stayed on, so I disconnected the battery and waited until morning. It started and I made it back home safely and took it to the dealer for repair. I paid over $2k for the SAM unit and a front passenger seat SBS sensor, which was what the message in the dash was telling me. This being the SECOND sensor I had replaced.
Well, this September the car had been sitting in the garage and I took it to get washed. Got back home and the same situation occurred with the lights and no starting. Couldn’t turn the key FOB. Finally got it to the dealer again. The Dealer is now telling me that I will owe them again for the repair, and in addition, they will have to pull the entire dash out of the car to try to find out where the leak is located. And I have to pay for it. It only took them 3.5 weeks to come to this conclusion. I told them to hold on , and I would get back to them. But I want to talk to legal counsel first, and alert the Better Business Bureau about this Dealership in Lexington, KY. The only M-B Dealership in Lexington, KY.
What would you suggest i do in this situation!?!?!

2006 Jeep Commander….leaked 1st on drivers side now on the passenger side.
service dept. air hosed the drains again…3rd time in for this problem…now waiting for rain to see what happens. anyway one of the service guys pulled the passenger side carpet up a little so that air could get in under the carpet to dry it…I looked at it further and it is disgusting….there is some thick rubber under the carpet itself and this is soaked and I doubt it will ever dry….this is where the mold is. anyone having this water leak with a 2010 ?

Hyuandai sonata ltd 2011 8800 miles just had a rain storm, and the floor of my passenger side is utterly soaked. Console, passenger door, glove compartment area’s all dry. The water is coming in somehow along the floor board of the car. taking it to the dealer tommorrow, wonder what they have to say. This is just short of riduculous.

2008 GMC Acadia. I starting hearing the gurgling of water above the headliner about two weeks ago and noticed that the passenger side floor was wet. It wouldn’t start today. I tried to jump it off but when it wouldn’t cooperate I hit the internet to see if the water in the roof could be a contributing factor. Boy was I surprised! The internet is littered with others going through the same ordeal. The GM dealership told me that the water leak shorted out the fuse box and that they could reduce the bill from $800 to $400 because they knew about the issue. When I complained that it was a design issue with GM they through up their hands. I contacted GM directly and they said that I didn’t have a design problem (me specifically) and there were not recall notices so I was SOL.
I am absolutely disgusted. This is going to continue to happen and it’s probably only going to get worse. Ridiculous. Have there been any cases in AL regarding this issue?

My dear husband bought me a 2008 Buick enclave for my anniversary present, not even one month after having it, I started smelling this funny odor in the car, I couldnt for the life of me figure it out, then another day it rained I saw the water leaking in, we called the dealership and we will not discuss the poor customer service that we have been receiving!! But the first time they stated they had to replace the end of the tubing bc it had become pinched when we were using the sunroof. The second time they stated they replaced the tubing and when it was ready it was raining so needless to say I didnt use it and there was still water leaking in my car that bc it was so cold turned to ice!! Which not to mention soaked a towel.
My bigger issue is ever since this issue, my son who rides in the back of my vehicle has been breathing very heavily lately (and he is NO WHERE near over weight) and I am very worried because I know the smell of an old umbrella that I have been previously smelling was probably mold and mildew that I am sure they have not addressed. On top of that I have been having these serious headaches that I thought were due to the change in weather but unfortunately the weather hasnt changed and the headaches havent gone away. Can someone please help us in North Carolina!!

Hello
I bought a 2007 Jeep Commander about 8 months ago and I have had it in the shop for the past 4 months with water puddles on the passenger side floor. I have had 3 windshields in the last 3 months and it is now back in the shop with the same problem. I live in Seattle, Washington. Is there someone local that can help?

WOW – what information about my 2008 Outlook XR with Sun/Moon Roof – of course, after the fact of buying a used one from a very large GM dealership group – it happens to be the Cadillac division – one year ago today with 31,629 miles upon thus the factory warranty was still in force.
The issue started one week ago @ 50,853 miles – drove into my driveway from a short drive home – turned the car off & it kept running – got the car to stop – then noticed the check engine light was ablaze – time to visit the dealer service center the next morning. Twice – to my surprise – during the evening the radio turned on with the NCAA basketball games on!
The next morning nothing would start – therefore it was taken to the dealership on a flat bed tow truck. I was contacted later that day – it was a bad ECM which was replaced under an extended after care warranty (3 yrs / 36,000 miles) – then I asked to have them check for water coming down along the driver’s side. I was informed it was some bad seals along the cowl causing the leak into the passenger compartment – I had it repaired for ~$141. Once this was completed I picked it up 5 days after dropping it off – the ECM had to be ordered – thought to be a happy camper too.
Well, yesterday after many nice dry days the heavens let open & it rained on and off all day – drove it home noticing some wetness on the driver floor mats & a puddle of water in the sun roof tracks – UGH! – oh well maybe a fluke & need to have it checked out on Monday – then we decided to go out for desert – we went out to the Outlook & the radio was on with a basketball game playing again & the check engine light ablaze again – glad the blub did not burn out in the chaos.
We immediately proceeded to the dealership again that night & left it as a late night drop off – where the car remained outside – another torrent of rain passed by the area – oh no!
After not hearing from the dealership by 11A today – I headed there to get an update – needless to say it was not a pretty meeting – water everywhere inside the driver compartment including the electrical system – which was never before a bad issue unless the car sat heading down hill in rain storm – now I am stuck with “the water doctor” coming on Monday to check it out & find out how much I owe – oh my what a mess.
Probably the biggest issue is how come that much water entered the car this time after a water seal repair was made – what happened?

I am in CT. I am the original owner of a 2008 Saturn Outlook w/ sunroof. On 09/28/2012, at 67,000 miles, I had a large amount of water coming into the vehicle during a heavy rain storm. THe water pooled on the driver’s floor under the E-brake. It happened again on 10/02/2012 after another period of rain. This time there was much more water coming in. THe water was coming out of the curtain airbag marker on the driver’s pillar and pouring out onto the floor. This caused the E-brake warning bell to sound off and on for my entire 30 minute drive home. I contacted the dealer and was informed that they had recently repaired several vehicles for the same problem. They told me, however, that there was no recall and as the vehicle is outside of the warranty period, I would be charged for the service. I then contacted GM directly. After advising they would contact the dealer to work on a solution, they called back to tell me the same thing. I informed them that they had issued two service bulletins on this issue, acknowledging there was a problem. Again they told me it was out of warranty. Obviously I am very concerned that this will blossom into a much greater problem with further electrical malfunctions, mold, etc.
Last fall I had to pay, out of pocket, to replace a faulty power steering pump. While I was on the phone with GM on the leak issue, I was informed (for the first time) that there was an open recall on the low beam headlamps. Wouldn’t you know, the passenger side head lamp is now out. I am also experiencing a clunking sound with any road vibration.
I am not in a position to amass costly service bills for what is clearly a known manufacturing/design defect with these vehicles. Again, I am most concerned that I, like so many before me, will continue to have these issues even after paying out of pocket for repairs that don’t work, putting my family’s health and safety at great risk. I pay a lot of money for this vehicle and would expect GM to own up to its end of the deal. I have filed a complaint with the NHTSA as well as the Better Business Bureau for assistance in this matter. I would appreciate any other advice you may have.
October 10th, 2012 at 11:15 am
John: sadly that you are now out of warranty, I do not see recourse. What was handled if anything under GM warranty?
October 10th, 2012 at 5:22 pm
I have a 2008 Saturn Outlook with the water leak issue that has created some electronic problems with the ventilation. When I brought the car to a GM dealership, they changed the ventilation motor and as it was still not working they investigated and discovered standing water under seats and carpet.
As I discovered that the water issue was a common issue for Saturn Outlook, I heavily complaint to Saturn client service, dealership and reported a safety complaint to NHTSA/ODI.
The dealership repaired for a zero cost for me (as a commercial gesture they said) and the ventilation is now working.
But during the repair, they discovered that the airbag module was rusted due to water and this time they refuse to make the reparation and want me to pay for that for a cost between $500 and $1,000. They now says that the water leak is due to a misappropriate windshield that has been changed by the former owner and all other reparation due to the water leak are under my responsibility.
As i see that water leak with outlook saturn is a common issue, I an wonderind whether they say the truth or not.
Can someone help me on that issue?
Thanks
Thomas

I bought a 2008 Jeep Liberty with 46,277 miles/36mth-36000 miles First Extended Warranty purchased/GAP coverage purchased/Tire Warranty purchased/Key Warranty purchased. I was in love when I bought this jeep, but 2months into the deal I was facing flat tires, electrical problems and water leakage. The electrical is covered great, but the water leakage is not UGH!!!!-this is worst than an electrical problem. I took my vehicle in to have the tire fixed because of a screw and they patched it and sent me on my way, just to have me come back because of tire pressure issues and then have a flat tire the next week (they did not do a diagnostic on all tires to let me know that tire was bad) UGH!!!!! Tell me do I have any kind of recall here to have things fixed without a major blow to my pocket-book. What are all the warranties for, if they don’t work. I also think this water leakage is a pre-existing condition and should be fixed by the dealer and can this cause me not to pass inspection.
February 15th, 2013 at 11:30 pm
I have a 2007 Saturn Outlook XR that keeps leaking water from the side curtain air bags. I’m concerned that with the water leaking there that the airbags won’t function properly. What should i do other then taking it to the dealer because i have already tried that and it didn’t go well. Needless to say its not “covered” and he pointed out the drain spots and said clear those out.

I just bought a used 08 Saturn outlook, I have had it a week and already had to take it in for corrosion on the fuse box to be replaced due to this.. I financed this car for 5 years, what am I suppose to do. There is NO warranty! This should be illegal for GM to Not do a recall on these cars and fix them!
May 15th, 2013 at 10:48 am
@Stephanie: The problem is the warranty. I would reach out to the state attorney general.

I bought a 2008 Saturn Outlook in April. I took it through the car wash this weekend and I had water running into the vehicle from the overhead console and the passenger side A pillar. I have contacted the dealer I bought the vehicle from (a local Hyundai dealer) and I am awaiting a decision from them. Since I bought the vehicle more than 30 days ago, I’m not confident that they will help.

I just bought a used 2009 Saturn Outlook Aug.1 2013. One week after I purchased the car the check engine light came on, I pulled over shut the car off and turned it back on. The light was gone, thought it might be the gas cap or something silly. One week later the light came on and would not go off. It was at the dealership for a week -they said it was a sensor in the catalytic converter and it was replaced under manufacturer’s warranty but I didn’t receive any paperwork (I thought that was strange). It has now been a week since I have had it back and there is a strong mold smell especially when I open the windows. I did hear the swishing sound when I first bought it but didn’t think anything of it at the time. It has not rained since I have had the car and it’s been super hot so I usually run the ac, like I said I notice it mostly when the windows are down. If you smell the window sill it’s horrible….. what do I do, can I return the car? I’m really concerned now after reading all the bad things people are complaining about on here and other sites. I only found good reviews when I was researching. I don’t have a sunroof either so where would my leaks be coming from??
August 7th, 2014 at 11:45 pm
I have a 2007 Jeep Commander and like everybody else its leaking. I have been to the dealership and they tell me its normal to have some drips from the grip handles. Well now my passenger side floor is flooded, going to the shop tomorrow. I live in Illinois is there anybody that can help me? Still has a warranty on it.
August 17th, 2014 at 9:54 pm
Let me assure you all this leakage problem is from the start with Saturn Outlook. I purchased an Outlook new in 2008 and am still driving it with 97,000 miles. It has a opening sunroof and rear seat moon roof. During warrenty water leaked and dripped down both front pillars. Numerous times back to Saturn dealer, each time assured it was fixed. At about 60,000 miles, car sat outside during a rain. Would start, stop, warning lights of all type came on. Took to a Chevy dealer now since Saturn was gone. Asked if I “spilled something’ as the fuse box was all rusted. Said repair was going to be $700.00. Told them to fix (what choice do you have) but I wanted all the parts they replaced. Called back and said they would repair free. Last night it sat out in rain again (car is usually garaged an dnow has 97,000 miles) and when started water poured out the headliner all over carpet. Cleaned up and let dry all day only to have it start and run about 10 seconds die while warning lights low tire, air bag, park assist all flash on before engine stops.
Historical, perpetual problem that has been back to GM MANY times and never is fixed.
May 9th, 2016 at 8:13 pm
2007 Saturn Outlook purchased used in 2011, live in PA. This weekend after being in the rain warning lights came on and when turning could hear water in the sunroof area, leaked down onto inside of front window and onto dashboard and front passenger seat. Did some online research to find that this is a known problem. Called GM today and was told previous owner had repairs done in 12/2008. I have to take to a dealer and have it checked to see if this problem is related to the previous issue. Will cost me $99.95 plus tax just for the diagnosis. Is there anything we can do?

Hello. I just purchased a 2008 Jeep Liberty with a skyslider for nearly $9,000 on May 10, 2018. I wish I would have done my homework on this vehicle. I did not notice any water marks or leak issue when I looked into buying this Jeep nor when I test drove it. But within the first 3 days of bringing it home it’s been nothing but heavy rain and now noticing major water leaks within the skyslider. I bought the Jeep “as-is” with 3 month/4,500 mile protection plan that the dealership had on the vehicle. Obviously a leak isn’t gonna be covered on that protection plan. What are my rights here? Do I have rights? Is the dealership required to fix this issue or am I on my own with this problem?

2017 Chevy Traverse leaking. How hard is it to make a roof?
March 16th, 2020 at 6:40 pm
Had dealer install a faulty sunroof and once the rain started in October so did the mold. This is a VW Jetta Wagon. It has been in the shop since late January and our warranty ended in late February.
The dealer cannot seem to fix it and insurance won’t cover.
What should we do?
Thank you,
Julie
