Struggling with a lemon car in the Big Apple? Think you may have a New York Lemon Law claim? BronxNet recently featured 1 800 LEMON LAW associate Stephen Silverman on their weekly legal program “Today’s Verdict” to discuss New York Lemon Law basics.
The New York Lemon Law covers vehicles (purchased or leased) that have been back to the shop repetitively for the same issue, or for an extended period of time within the first 18,000 miles or 24 months, whichever comes first. Problems can range from check engine lights to transmission troubles, brake problems to water leaks, steering concerns to electrical failures. Remedies could include a complete repurchase, a replacement, or monetary compensation to reflect the diminished value of the car as a result of the problem. Legal representation under the Law is completely cost-free.
If you think you may have a claim, it is imperative that you receive a repair invoice each time you bring the vehicle in for service. These invoices should include pertinent information including mileage in and out, days out of service, your specific complaint, and what was done to address your complaint. Keep these records in a safe place as they could be very important in seeking recovery.
