New Jersey may be the smallest state in the Country but they pack the largest punch when it comes to Lemon Law rights. The New Jersey Lemon Law has earned an A ranking from the Center for Auto Safety, making it the most effective Lemon Law in the Country.
A few years back, we reported that the late great automotive consumer advocate Clarence Ditlow lauded the New Jersey Lemon Law for being the second most effective Lemon Law and made suggestions to improve the statute. The State listened, making significant improvements. The NJ Lemon Law now protects drivers who suffer a non-conformity or 20 days out of service within the first 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first, versus 24 months or 18,000 miles. In addition, per Ditlow’s suggestion, the Law now allows manufacturers only one chance to fix an issue that could cause death or serious bodily injury.
As a reminder like other states, the New Jersey Lemon Law provides a fee-shifting provision, making the manufacturer responsible for all attorney fees and legal costs if the consumer prevails. When we accept a claim at 1 800 LEMON LAW, we ensure our clients receive 100% cost-free legal representation, win or lose. There is never a cost or risk to going up against the car companies. It’s also important to note that even if you fall outside the NJ Lemon Law parameters, you still may have rights to significant compensation if your vehicle is repeatedly out of service under your manufacturer’s warranty. And just like the Lemon Law, the federal warranty laws provide the same cost-free legal representation with nothing to lose and everything to gain.
