Lemon Law Refunds and Replacements Were A-Plenty This Spring
Spring was a busy time at the 1-800 LEMON LAW headquarters as we successfully helped over 1,000 distressed drivers with their lemon car problems.
We always love to share the positive outcomes of past Lemon Law and breach of warranty cases with our readers, so below are some of the highlights from the past few months. Obviously, all cases are different and we cannot guarantee a particular outcome for any case, but each of these drivers took advantage of our 100% cost-free legal help and fought back against the big-money car companies using State Lemon Laws and Federal Warranty Laws.
And remember that in addition to the rewards listed, the manufacturer covered all attorney fees. EVERY client received completely free legal help with many cases settled in a matter of months or less.
If you have a claim under the Lemon Law, you could be looking at a complete Lemon Law refund, including taxes, tags, down payment etc. (minus a small mileage offset); a replacement vehicle; or significant monetary compensation to reflect the diminished value of the vehicle as a result of the problem.

I have a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro that I purchased this past July 1, 2013. One week after I bought it the Head Up Display started to fade in and out while driving. I took it back to the dealer and was told nothing could be done unless this issue occurred while they were driving it. Of course that did not happen and it worked fine for the next week with the exception of a slight fade to where it was visible but not nearly as bright as it should be. The following Saturday while returning home from a graduation party I was in an unfamiliar area and needed Onstar assistance to guide me home but I could not get my Onstar buttons on my mirror to work. I had to go onto the Mylink app on my phone to put my destination into the system which worked. I kept trying the buttons on the mirror all the home and they didn’t work. This morning I took my car out to see if I could get the Onstar buttons on my mirror to work and they are working again but my Head up Display was not working again and I was able to take several videos of the issue with my phone. I’ve also noticed that I can’t access my Onstar via the steering wheel controls. I don’t know if this is normal for the Camaro but I am able to do this in my 2013 Chevrolet Silverado. It seems to me that my 2013 Camaro has an electronics issue and without rewiring the entire car which is nearly impossible this vehicle will never work properly and will give my anguish until I get rid of it which at 52 years old was not in my plans ever. My plan is or was to give this car to my first grandchild when he or she is old enough to drive assuming my daughter can and will have children. I would rather Chevrolet replace this vehicle and not give me a refund. Is there anything you can do to help me?
July 16th, 2013 at 3:49 pm
@Vincent: They are not going to do anything unless there are actual repairs and even then, you will need to hire a lemon law lawyer. Keep track of every instance and get back to the dealer immediately to discuss what occurred this past week. Once you are in three or more times, please reach out to us with your information at https://www.lemonlaw.com/rid.html and we will see what we can do.

2013 Jeep Compass purchase with less than 5 miles less than 6 months ago, four attempts have been made to correct the issue that my vehicle has that makes it pull to the right, I have all of the paperwork. I did go a fifth time under the guidance of a Chrysler representative that called me, emailed me, and set up the “final attempt” for repairs to be made. This last time a Chrysler rep came for the second time and found no issues with the vehicle but stated that the vehicle pulls the direction of the road, whichever way it is tilted for the water to drain properly. A different service technician told me it was the torque steer and happens upon rapid acceleration which is not the case, I have it on cruise control it pulls to the right, driving in traffic it pulls to the right, rapid acceleration, dangerously pulls to the right. I called the representative one last time and told me my last resort was arbitration. I have all of the work orders, certified letters etc… Let me know. Thank you

I have a 2008 gmc Acadia. In the past two years since I bought the car from a certified gm dealer I have had the car in the shop several times. The airbag recall has been fixed 3 times but still have the service airbag light on. I’ve had torque converter replaces then not even a year later had a new transmission out in. The car steering wheel violently shakes when I go speeds above 50. And now it’s back in for two recalls. One being the airbag again. I can’t seem to catch a break with this car. Do I have any options other the. Continually taking it in for repairs?

@Jenny: You need to research your state lemon law to find out the statute of limitations.

I have had my 2011 Durango for 2 years 4 months I have had the car in the shop 7 times for the same problem of accelerating by itself it’s been to three dealers and I’ve had No luck in fixing the problem the car almost caused my wife and kids to get hit by a semi truck going 70 miles an hour the car was going 70 miles an hour then the problem happened the car decelerated and she was not able to accelerate back up to highway speeds in the semi almost hit them. I told dodge customer care that I would like a different vehicle and they said they could not help me with that I would like to know what I can do to get my money back for the vehicle or a trade that does not cost me any money. This vehicle is dangerous to my family and other drivers on the road and Dodge still cannot fix the problem after seven attempts. Please help.

I have a 2012 Ford Focus SE and the transmission was shuttering and sticking on gears. Went to ford dealer to see about car transmition to them saying the car needed to be broken in and after a month it will be smooth got a service order. The second time I took the car in was again for jerking and shuttering followed by the engine slightly revving at a complete stop, they reset and updated transmission. The third time was due to sync with my ford freezing and again transmition vibrations to the point of rattling in car panels extremely annoying. Took it in the fourth time for the transition slip out of park and hitting my garage door, again they did an investigation said nothing was wrong and reset transmition. The fourth time was due to my car not going into gear couldn’t get past a certain speed going up hills with my foot all the way down on gas peddle follows by nothing when I put the car in automatic mode. I just took the car in a sixth time for transmition problems and now it no longer jerks but it still vibrates car and seats followed by dropping of gear when shifting and you can feel the power loss. I live in El Paso, to and bought the car at casa ford.

Hi we purchased a 2014 Chevy Impala 2/26/2014. We have had problem after problem with this brand new vehicle. The first problem started 1 month after we purchased it. The MyLink system would not work AT ALL we initially reported the issue to OnStar and after they couldn’t fix the issue we were instructed to take the vehicle in to have it looked at. We were told by the dealer service department that they could not find anything wrong with it. Well this has happened at least 4-5 times since. We have also complained several times to the dealer that our emergency break light and traction light comes on while driving the vehicle. This has happened 3/4 times I have notified GMC as well as the dealer and I was informed there was nothing they could unless I brought the vehicle in while the problem was occurring. On one occasion I not a rubbing noise coming from the back of the car, come to find out it was because the emergency break had activated on its on while I was driving. On several occasions we get notifications on the cars screen that a “front camera” needs to be serviced and the car doesn’t have a front camera! Again GMC and the dealer have been constantly notified of these issues but says there hands are tied unless the vehicle is brought in with these issues there’s nothing they can do. Can you help us?

I have a 2013 ford escape se 1.6 ecoboost. It’s had a couple recalls. And last month it was in for losing coolant. The reason was a bad waterpump (which should not happen to a car that’s 2 years old). I noticed yesterday that the car is getting low on coolant again, so back to get it fixed again. I’m wondering do i have any rights with this in the state of illinois? What can I do? I don’t think this should be happening to a car that I’ve had for almost 2 years and I still have to pay it off.

I purchased a brand new 2014 f150 on December 22, 2014. Within a week I notice my driver side carpet soaked with water. On December 30, 2014 I took it in and a flood test revealed a water leak from the top left corner of the windshield. Windshield was replaced and was told the issue was corrected. Within a month and a half my driver side carpet was once again soaked with water. On February 27, 2014 I returned to the dealership and was once again told that water is leaking in the cab from the exact area. Does Massachusetts consider this vehicle a lemon?
March 9th, 2015 at 2:01 pm

I purchased a 2015 Hyundai Sonata with 19 miles on it in August. I took it to the shop last week because the Cam seal busted and oil leaked throughout the engine causing it to run erratically. I was charged for an oil change when I picked my car up which I found strange, but anyway, today I am taking my car back to the dealer less than a week from receiving back from the dealer for a loud grinding/popping/cracking sound on the front left side. Two times in 2 weeks for two different issues, and neither were recall related. If I continue to have issues does this qualify or does it have to be the same problem repeatedly?

I purchased a used 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with 7K miles in November 2014 from a private party (clean carfax). Since then I have had it into the Jeep dealer for water leaks on both the driver side and passenger side floor boards. I live in Oregon and it rains plus we don’t live in a flat location so the Jeep is always parked at a decline/incline. I am now on my 5th visit to Jeep and they have escalated the matter to Chrysler for review. They have had my Jeep now for 2 weeks and told me that a Regional Chrysler representative will be reviewing the case tomorrow. Jeep dealer told me that Chrysler is aware that Jeeps leak when parked on incline/decline which I cannot find any documentation on the web to substantiate that claim. Of the 5 months I have had this Jeep it as spent nearly 6 weeks at the NW Jeep Dealer. From what I can find on the web its not clear whether I have a qualifying lemon law case in my state or at the federal level? Thank you.
April 29th, 2015 at 4:18 pm
@Jeff: I think you may have a claim under Federal law. Visit https://www.lemonlaw.com/lemon-law-firm.html to find a firm in your state.
April 29th, 2015 at 4:21 pm
@Bruce: Due to the age of the vehicle, it would not fall under the Laws we work with. Please contact the PA Attorney General’s office to see if they can provide assistance. Best of luck to you.
April 29th, 2015 at 4:25 pm
@Tyler–It needs to be a repeated instance of the same issue.

New 2014 Honda EX. Power steering light and loss of power steering when starting three rimes. The last time I was stranded. The first two times I restarted the car, which temporarily fixed the problem. It has been in the shop four times, the first being a check keyless starting system. Twice with new parts for the power steering. I will not accept this car back. Now they want the loaner back and want us to drive a rental on them. My fear is this: While I wait for the lemon to kick in they will probably cease paying for the rental and try once again to give me this car back which I feel is dangerous to drive.

I have purchased a 2015 Chrysler 200 Limited in upstate New York. As soon as I drove off lot I noticed a bad foul smell coming out the AC. It has started to give me headaches and make me feel nauseated. I brought it back the next morning to service. They have it as we speak now. It may be mold/bacteria build up. If so this is a very unhealthy situation. Do I have a claim?
June 16th, 2015 at 1:36 pm
@Lindsay: Under NY Law, the vehicle either has to be back four times for the issue or out of service 30 days before we can look into a claim. Make sure you keep all repair records.

I owned a TOY 2008 SE CAMRY 2.4 CYLINDER
ENGINE failed and locked up at 168,000 miles after an oil changed from a reatailer who noted slugde in engine. I replaced other components like radiator and temp gauges. Two weeks laters blew the head gasget again and this mechanic replaced that component. Two weeks later he said it rain but I had to replace the catalyst converter. it ran for a day.. took it back he said its the transmission. We bought an Infinti QX80 in June of this year brand new. It’s been back at the dealership for a total of 17 days out of the 110 we’ve owned it. They have replaced the Fuel Pump, an electrical board that they had to ship in from Japan (ENC?). And the engine light has come on 3 seperate times. Nissan has just offered us $2500. Does this sound fair?
November 1st, 2016 at 3:12 pm
@Greg: I do not think that seems fair and I am also worried that by accepting that money, you may be signing away your rights for future remedy. Please visit https://www.lemonlaw.com/rid.html if you would like us to review the claim.

I have a 2015 ram 1500 , the problem is I have condensation in my headlights. The dealership replaced the headlights 4 times and the problem still persists. The dealership told me not to bring the truck to them anymore, unless it was for something else, but not for the headlights. And the headlights that they replaced mines with, there not the original ones. The ones that they installed are the same style but different color inserts. I asked and they said that mine were discontinued.

I bought a 2014 Kia Sorento in June of 2013. Since I’ve had the vehicle it has had 2 recalls and I have had complete engine failure and had to have it replaced last October. My vehicle was at the dealership for over a month. I just received another safety recall for the motor stating that it may stall at higher speeds increasing my risk of crashing. I drive the freeway daily so higher speeds is an everyday occurrence. Would I have a claim?

I purchased a 2013 suburu Legacy May 29 2017. 1 week after I bought it, we started hearing a rattling noise. We took it back to the dealer who replaced the transmission. (It was at the dealer for 2 days, they then called me to come and get it and bring it back after the new transmission arrived. 5 days later I took it back to the dealer to get the transmission replaced as well as some kind of rings and they had it for another 6 days) and $106.00 deductible. 2 days after the transmission was replaced, my car started making the same rattling noise again. I called and made another appt but canceled after I told my husband that I would take it to a Suburu dealer. I took my car to the suburu dealer yesterday with complaints of the same rattling noise, I go through 2 quarts of oil every week, loss of gas mileage and loss of power and as of yesterday the emergency brake light, cruise control light and check engine lights all came on. The car dealer had me come pick it up again today after I had to pay an addition $85.00 for them to look at it and I now have to replace the catalytic converter, the exhaust heat shield, and the short block of the motor, which the warranty only covers the replacement of the motor IF APPROVED and to just have the converter and the heat shield will be $1600.00 (which we have to get an oil change first and keep driving back to the dealer so that they can monitor the oil to have proof for the warranty company). I have had this car 2 months and it is running me broke already on top of making my monthly payment.

I have an intermittent airbag issue on a 2017 Kia Soul, it has been in the shop four times and now over 30 days cumulative, they still cannot find the issue to be able to attempt to replace anything, even with KIA tech line ect. The service manager has stated they know there is an issue(they have all seen the light on) but no idea when they can remedy. My car only has 2k on it

@Sharynn: In order to move forward with a case, you would need at least one invoice where they verify the issue. I would change dealerships if you find they cannot figure out the root of the problem.

Purchased 2015 F150 from a Maryland dealer and it was a CERTIFIED PRE OWNED. AFTER 90 days of driving the truck it started to rattle bad. Turns out to be muffler issues. Am getting a runaround about fixing it. They sold me an extended warranty (assuming it was a Ford ew) it was a third party warranty and my local dealer in Delaware does not honor a third party warranty..
When I purchased the vehicle I was never presented with the car fax. When I looked up the car fax I found that the truck had been in a flood. This was never disclosed to me or I NEVER would have purchased the vehicle. I have a meeting with the dealer today5-18 2018. What are my recourses if I have any?

@Jesse–You are correct; the third party warranty kills your chances of using the Magnuson Moss against the dealer. I would work with the dealer who sold you the warranty and if you find the warranty not to be effective, you may want to consider small claims court.

I bought a 2015 charger and the dealership used car check instead of carfax and I recently found out that my car had structural damage and I couldn’t trade it in

I started having problems with my brand new 2018 Jeep Wrangler 3 days after purchase in June. Dealer pacified me for 1st two moths as if I wasn’t familiar with the jeep. It’s been in the shop 9 times already. Battery replaced, radio replaced twice, steering wheel replaced, front axle, track bar, steering damper (car shook on the highway to the point where I had to pullover to get it to stop), and due next week in for a new amp. The automatic shut off shut the car off while driving. Another time the car malfunction to the point where it wouldn’t go in drive or reverse til the 4th. I could of been in an accident.

We purchased a 2018 voltswagon atlas in feb of 2018 at a dealorship in West Virginia. Since that time, it has been in the shop approx 6 Times for a check engine light they cannot fix. The light has came back on again. They want me to bring it in again. I mentioned the lemon law and they have discouraged this. Any suggestions?

I recently purchased a 2018 Ford Escape with 4 wheel drive. It has been in the shop at least 4 times since I’ve
Had it. The engine light keeps going on. I bought it less than a year ago and it is currently back in the shop again since June 12th. I told my Service Rep. there is obviously something wrong with the electronics. No we will fix the problem. Very impressed that they provided me with a loaner car. Not to happy car is back in the shop.

I purchased a 2011 Buick LaCrosse CXL, May 26, 2018. I explained to the service manager the sales person the store manger that when I test drove the car that the car felt like it was dragging while driving, and service engine light was on, also. I only drove the car an approximate total of 25-30 days in 2018. It was at the dealer for several months. Then they replaced the engine and once I received the car on January 31, 2019, he car was still dragging. I drove the car for 5 months and it broke down on me July 12, 2019. The warranty company doesn’t want to pay for the cost to repair the dragging issue and the lifetime warranty through the dealer doesn’t want to pay for my car to get out the shop. I’ve been ripped off and I’ve been paying on a car and the insurance for over a year and a half and I don’t have the car back yet.
