GMC Acadia Water Leak Problem Continues – Water Leaks Inside The Vehicle

February 22, 2012
By: Robert Silverman

The GMC Acadia water leak problem continues to be an issue. As far back as 2009, we were writing how GMC Acadia drivers were dealing with a water leak problem which was leaving them and their passengers “all wet,” not to mention the floor boards and the electrical systems. Sadly, the problem is now occurring in newer GMC Acadia Vehicles as well.

The good news is we have successfully resolved numerous water leak claims for this vehicle.  If you are suffering with a water leak in your GMC Acadia, make sure you return to a General Motors authorized dealer at your earliest opportunity.  Try to pinpoint where the leak is coming from so you can provide as much helpful information as possible to your service adviser.

Make sure when you pick the vehicle up from service that you also receive a repair invoice which outlines the water leak problem and what was done to address the situation.  Check for mold, mildew and headliner stains as well.  If the problems continue, you need to keep bringing the Acadia back.

If you are back to the dealer three or more times, you could be entitled to free legal representation under State Lemon Laws or Federal Warranty Laws.

You could be looking at a repurchase, a new vehicle or a partial refund and continued ownership of the Acadia.  Remember, under the Lemon Law and Federal Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, legal representation is completely free , so you have nothing to lose except your (wet) lemon.

If you have questions, feel free to drop us a line or call us at 1 800 LEMON LAW. Residents in NJ, NY, and PA can learn more about their state lemons laws on our state lemon law FAQ pages.

We are having this same issue with our 2008 Buick Enclave. Essentially the same thing as the Acadia. It is currently in the shop for the second time about a roof leak. First time we had the drain tubes installed, and just last week water was leaking in through the roof center console, and shorted out our sunroof motor. it is a 2008 (purchased new) with less than 40,000 miles on it. We didnt notice it when we lived in North Carolina, but now that we live in rainy Washington, it has become a huge issue.

Me too. Transmission was even hosed because of it. I’ve been having the same problem ever since I got the car. Most of the time, the electrical system just shorts out and they fix it. One dealer even told me not to take it to a touch-less car wash!

This will be the second time I have my 2009 GMC Acadia in for a water leak. They never mentioned this was a common problem. First time it was under warranty. This time they are telling me it isn’t under warranty. Is there anything I can do to get them to cover it? The leak is bad this time, I hear water rolling from front to back while I drive. I have also had to have the head gasket changed which they tried blaming on me also while still under warranty.

          Thank you,
          Lorraine Veloudis

I have a 2008 GMC Acadia, bought it brand new and it has already been in the shop once because it was leaking and the cleaned my sunroof drain pipes and my step dad who is a mechanic and owns his own shop has even cleaned the drains and unclogged other tings that could be causeing the leaks. the leak had left my floorboards under about an inch of water. I don’t hear the water rolling around as i drive, it just appears in my car everytime it rains. now, my car has been sitting in our yard because of expired tags and mold and rust have now formed inside the car, mold was everywhere and it still seems to be leaking from somewhere everytime it rains.

RE: the 2012 Acadia – Our 2007 Saturn experienced the same leak(s) -Beware – the rain water drain pipe from the sunroof ends up dumping water onto the drivers floor board. There is a depression below the carpet in which the water pools.

I just recently purchased a pre-owned 2009 Acadia and I also am experiencing similar issues with the leaking. My Acadia leaks in the passenger side from underneath the glove compartment onto the passenger side floor board. Also, everytime i make a turn i can hear water flowing in the A/C vents area. Does anyone know if theres been some type of recall on this problem? At first I thought it was just my Acadia…now, after reading all this, it seems like its an epademic.

We currently have a 2007 Acadia that we have had for almost a year that is leaking on the drivers and passenger side seat belts all the way to the floor. We took it to a GM dealer and they attempted to fix it and $2000 later we are still having leaks. Took it back a second time; they attempted to fix again and hoped that it solved the problem. On the way home from the shop,in the rain, it continued to leak. When we called the dealership again, we were informed that there was nothing else they could do and we should not bring it back again. We have paid the initial $2000 already and are thinking about trading it in and giving the problem to someone else although we don’t “feel good” doing that. Upon the first visit to the dealership, we learned that the sunroof had already been worked on a couple times before we bought it. Can the lemon law help?

                    • #10 LemonLaw says:

Unfortunately, we can only help if there are repeated problems under warranty.

So since my 2008 Acadia is out of warranty and it is now starting to leak (took to the dealr today for the first time to get it looked/fixed) There is nothing I can do about it?

                          Thanks,

We purchased a 2007 Acaidia back in Nov, 2012 from a Nissian dealership. They gave us a warranty for 5 year and I also purchased an additional warranty. It leakes at the back beside the rear hatch out of the rear seatbelts, out of the 3rd row light fixture and around the rear sunroof and from the front side airbags. What can we do at this point?

Dealer had to replace all the ends to every wiring harness plus the fuse box. It’s past the 36k/36 month bumper to bumper warranty. Waiting to see if GM is going to help with the bill.

We have discovered water leaking on the pasenger side hatch and the passenger side kick plate and floorboard the carpet is wet under the pading on the second row also! Not very happy at the moment and very disapointed in General Motors after reading the post by others on here. If anyone knows were these leaks could be coming from please share.

i share with u the same problem in my acadia 2008 as i stated previously above… i am chief engineer — water leak comes through sunroof opening– the sealing rubber gasket there at sunroof glass is not usually tight as on other cars like Toyota — raining water will slightly leak and accumulate on top roof until over flow then coming through windshield sides , top roof rear side to 2nd row passenger side–
this is chronic problem of all most lovely car Acadia — all suffering the same — solution to change the top sunroof sealing gasket regularly every 6 month to one year approx. because gasket will be compressed by regular use open/close — or to give to the dealer they will fix drain small pipe to drain accumulated water from the sun roof to down side through sides of windshield -but drain pipe is not effective usually blocked by dust dirts…

Windshield expert tested it repeatedly and confirmed it was not the windshield. 3 days later LARGE amounts of water began coming thru the ceiling console where the interior dome lights are – water sloshing around inside the lights, the fabric on the console soaked and dripping water all over the car. Car is within 2,000 miles of being out of warranty – huge mess. GMC certainly knows they have a problem. Anyone successful with invoking the lemon law?

Was fortunate enough to put into neutral and restart the vehicle. If I had been going around a sharp corner and ran off the road and died would GMC finally do something about this problem? Fortunately I am alive what should I expect from GM now? Why is there not a class action against GM and all its dealers that keep selling these faulty cars. I have owned many vehicles but none with a leaky gasket causing vehicles to flood. I have 78k on the car but purchased an extended warranty. OH but water leaks aren’t covered. So much for honesty in the car dealership world. I know “What am I thinking right?” But what about the guy at the dealership that sold me the extended warranty. Isn’t a EW like an insurance policy? Do these guys have insurance licenses? As you can tell I am extremely disappointed with this issue. There has to be something we can do about this problem if at least get it to stop reoccurring. Its been in the shop one week now because of transmission fail and faulty body control module which had an unexplained “short” that caused my turn signals to malfunction, all the while my car was leaking from both front pillars at the windshield, the driving pedals, and the rear map lights. This is ridiculous. GM obviously has a serious design flaw in these vehicles. Something needs to be done.

After being in a drought the last few years, all we have been getting this summer is rain. My Acadia has been leaking as well. Took it back to where we bought it, they checked the windshield and cleaned out the drain plugs.$100 per hour labor. Next time it rained, a few days later, it started leaking again in the same spots. I am worried about my roof liner getting ruined and carpet and not to mention the wiring. The moldy smell is horrid. Thank god we bought the additional coverage. I read that we have to take it back 3-4 times before the lemon law kicks in? Now are we going to have to pay $100 per hour each time we take it back? As much as we pay for these vehicles you would think they would re-issue the recall on this. The only good thing that came out of the first visit was they found a recall on the front airbags. Fixed it.

                                                                            • #38 Matt says:

I thought it was from a leak under the car and have worked on it several different times. Sunday the car was setting in the driveway not being driven. I went out to go to town Monday and the floorboard was wet. Can not see where the water is coming from.

Was getting in it and my garage panel and sunroof controls were pouring water. Took it to a Glass company on dealerships dime to get fixed. It was supposively fixed. Started leaking again about 3 weeks ago. Took it back to the glass company and was told the Sunroof issue wasnt the original issue and that the Acadia’s ‘body seams’ were leaking. Going to the dealership tomorrow. Because same as most of these stories I have read, my electrical system is messing up, my car smells horrid and im over dealing with it. I dont have a warranty of any kind, but I also havent had the car 5 months. Someone is going to do something or they can have the smelly, leaking, sob back.

Dealer blamed the windshield replacement by an independent company for water coming in at the floorboards!! Then the GMC dealer put in a “factory” windshield and insisted that the problem was resolved. The first rain that I encountered resulted in water pouring thru the upper console with the dome lights, etc. Took it back again and they put in a new windshield again. No water since HOWEVER water damage has already surfaced in a corroded control panel that enables the car to start.
IMPORTANT: When this occurred I complained so incessantly to GMC Corporate, demanding that they admit that this is a problem and insisting that the car would have electrical problems… (I was right…) They finally extended my orginal mfg. warranty to 63K miles and another 2 years – whichever occurs first. The warranty is transferrable. I would recommend that you start emailing corporate and don’t stop. Let them know you are educated on this problem, etc. I fully anticipate that there will be more expensive repairs with mine, and at least I have the coverage. My video is on youtube of the leaky acadia….. Good luck.

After a rain my carpets under my floornmats are wet. When I lift the mats up I see moisture spotsnon thebottom of my mats. I do not have an extended warrenty. I have had to have so much done to it for only having it a year. It needed. A rack and pinion, power stearing unit, and the computer box for the transmission. I had to fight to get that all cover since my warranty had just expired. Can I still fight for it to be covered?

Within the first month, I had to take it back to the dealer because it was pulling oil into an air filter. This caused the vehicle to think we were sliding on ice so it would automatically slow down. Perfect on the freeway! They were going to charge me $1300 to fix it. When I told them I don’t have the money and wanted my trade in back, the dealer fixed it at no charge. Now, 3 1/2 months into owning this car, there is a leak coming from the roof, shorted out the back up light just past the moon roof and now I noticed it is coming through the driver side air bag. The dealership told me this is a very uncommon problem. What are the chances of my air bag deploying because of the water leak? Why did we bail out GM again? I hate this car. I will never buy an American car again. I can’t wait to get rid of it. Thank you.

Call corporate, get an email so that they can not put you off with phone calls. Document it and let them know that you will NOT back off and will file complaints with Federal agencies. GM knows full well that they have a design problem. DO NOT STOP UNTIL GM AGREES TO GIVE YOU A FULL EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT IS TRANSFERABLE TO A NEW OWNER!!! That’s what I did and they finally caved in and gave me the extended bumper to bumper. JUST LAST MONTH THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND THE DEALERSHIP ADMITTED THAT A CONTROL PANEL WAS WATER DAMAGED!!! Brought it to the dealership and they claimed it’s the cabin air filter and they want to charge me for it, as it’s a maintenance item. I refused and said that none of my other cars give off such an order because of an air filter, and that it must be some sort of design flaw causing water to clog somewhere. They disagreed, and started blaming it on the fact that my kids could have been in the car with wet bathing suits. Seriously?? I called GM Customer Care and they aren’t too helpful either. I am bringing it back next week to have them look at the entire AC system and check for clogged water, and I’m just waiting for them to blame this on me again. Any advice? I have a feeling the smell is not going to be fixed and I worry that it’s dangerous for my toddler and baby daughter to be breathing in.

WHEN THE DRAIN CLOGS UP, IT PREVENTS THE DRAIN FROM DOING ITS JOB AND THE WATER FINDS ITS WAY TO THE LOWEST POINT OF THE VEHICLE…(THANKS TO GRAVITY). My 08 Acadia leaks like a faucet.

They just covered all the leak repairs AND replaced both my floorboards completely. Only because I got on Twitter and was relentless in telling everyone what they’ve done. Or were not doing. I then wrote them an open letter telling them if they didn’t fix everything, I wanted a signed letter saying they were responsible if anything bad happened to me or my two kids. That did the trick.

It leaks into the interior through the airbag decals on the side panels beside the windshield and through the plastic part of the windshield visors where they attach to the top of the windshield. Can’t believe if it only takes a second to blow out the hoses why they don’t do it with every service rather than have their reputation go down the drain. Does anyone know if the lemon law is available in Canada?

That is where its leaking. I too had to replace my fuse panel to the tune of $1050 on my 2008 GMC Acadia. Window company here discovered the body seam leak and dealership paid for it to be done. Good luck.

Bought it 4 weeks ago. First heavy rain, it stalled out on me, then restarted and actually the engine would not shut off. Dealer said it was moisture behind the dash. I was in the body shop for 3 days fixing the “leak”, and fuse box repaired, etc. Now today, 3 days after it was returned to me, raining again, water poors down on my left foot while I am driving… original dealer visit was at 49,913 miles… now I am at 50,063. I have the certified bumper to bumper, and factory purchased extended warranty… but will be be covered since problem was found before 50,000??

However, I feel strongly that based on the feedback from all the other victims in this thread, that we need to put as much pressure as we can on General Motors, which knowingly continues to produce an obviously a poor product which cost a lot of money and becomes worthless after it fills up with water…

I purchased it used almost two years ago from our local Chevrolet dealership here I’m tuscaloosa, alabama. Nothing but problems ever since! I have had it in the shop 2-3 times for my vehicle flooding! I am taking it back tomorrow. Today it rained through the airbags on driver and passenger side. Through the visor on driver side into my lap, through the very back around third row seating. It always leaks but this is about the 5th time it had completely flooded. I had to park it tonight at my neighbors in their carport. I bought the extended warranty until 120,000mi and am at 114,000 now so needed to know if lemon law could help? I am set up to go bk to the dealership in the morning and spoke with GM tonight and they said I needed to take it tomorrow and they would call them about it. I have HAD it! My vehicle stinks and it is not safe to drive my 3 year old in! Things have started to short out. The dealership and warranty is saying the leaking is not covered under warranty and want to charge $900 to fix the problems. I called GM and they acted as if it wasn’t a big deal and told me all they can do is talk to the CEM’s at the dealership and see if they can make it a little cheaper

Since then I have spent over $1100 with various problems: struts, alignment, tires damaged from strut problem, tie rods, a mysterious loud noise that sounded like there was something locking up that has made me afraid to drive the vehicle, and now water coming inside the floorboards on the passenger side and running over to the driver side. Nobody could figure out what the problem was until Monday when I found a person who works on insurance cases regarding cars. The noise has something to do with the transmission when the car is inclined on a turn (happens sporadically) and the water is building up in the heat / air section (he made a video). BUT WHERE DO I START SINCE IT WAS BOUGHT OUT OF TOWN WITHOUT AND EXTENDED WARRANTY? I cannot afford these expenses.

Traveling to Kansas City and I kept thinking the interior smelt wet. We ran into some heavy rain, stopped and paid the toll on the pike and when we left the toll booth water poured out onto my Wife’s feet from the fan cover under the glove box; just like #8 Ash posted above. I suspect it may be leaking on the driver side as well as the floor board on the driver side was also wet, just not as soaked as the passenger side. Has anyone had any luck with a dealer ship/manufacture (GMC) correcting the issue at no cost to the vehicle owner?

I called a local radio show about this problem and was directed to a company that took out the headliner. They did a water test to see where the water was coming from. The worst leaks were from the windshield that was replaced several years ago. They also said 4 of the 6 drains were plugged. They blew them out. Did you know that of the 6 drains, only the front drains are accessible. When the back drain on the sunroof gets plugged, water will till the ceiling and end up in several places. The headliner has to be removed to blow down that drain. The same goes for the drains for the Moonroof. We have had an issue with our new battery not starting the car. NO battery power at all! The repair guy checked the battery and found 2″ of water. I had him drill a drain so the water has somewhere to go.

With an older Acadia, and this obvious design flaw, should GM have a recall to solve the problem? We had already spent over $600 a few years ago to have the front drain tubes replaced. From reading one of the prior comments, GM had a recall on that and should have fixed it for free. Looks like we will be getting something else because of all the water issues…without a sun roof!

One nice day had the windows down, went to go put them back up and it would not go back up. Key would not come out of the ignition. Right turn signal and brake light would not work, back up camera would not work. Took it to the dealer, they found the windshield was leaking and water going into the fuse box causing shorts. The installed a new fuse box, and resealed the windshield, now it leaks somewhere else, so they are going to reseal it again. And this is all one visit.

I just found out that my dash lights and headlights have some kind of short in them because of the leaks my 2008 Acadia had. A mechanic told me he thinks the electrical box and/or fuse box may have gotten eroded. I can only imagine how pricey this is going to be to fix.

Recently, I’ve started having the “sunroof” leak in addition to my original leak. I’ve contacted GM and have been told that they’re not responsible for repair because I’m beyond any warranty coverage. I’ve already put a few thousand dollars into repairs for other issues that have also turned out to be common special treats for GM owners. Does anyone know of a class action brewing against GM???

So the vehicle is known for water leaks. Anything electrical can go bad unless they fix entire problem. They really need to do a buyback option. I am ready to sue.

Two weeks after we purchased it it rained and I noticed way too much inner condensation inside the car and didn’t know why. It rained yesterday, was sunny today and saw same heavy condensation. I inspected the car and noticed the drivers and passengers floorboards were soaking wet. I suspect after reading all these complaints the car must have a leak. We are planning to contact the dealership, if they can’t do anything for us what is the time frame to be covered under the lemon law? Our problem has just begun, can’t imagine having to deal with this problem when we just purchased the Acadia a month ago.

While cleaning it out last spring I noticed that the padding under the carpet in the front of the car was saturated. The dealership told me I had a bad evaporator core…$2100. A second opinion resulted in changing one a/c hose and the air has worked fine ever since. No one has been able to diagnose the leak. Supposedly the air system is draining properly and another body shop ran water over the car for 5 hours with no issues. Anyone have any advice?

Can’t begin to even estimate the number of times it’s been in the shop. Standing water in floorboard, battery is in the floorboard and of course water runs right into the box, dripping from DVD player, electrical shorts, you name it, I have experienced it. Fast forward 2016 and I07,000 miles and I am done. Inever know if it is going to start when it rains for several days. It is not just the sunroof. Last trip the dealership charged $275 for a new seal and headliner was wet the next day and water dripping on my feet. Sad thing is I still like the room and style of the Acadia. Will I buy another? I have been having leak issues (water in passenger floorboard) since the 1st week of owning it. We have taken it in, under warranty, to the dealership we bought it from 3 times now. Each time they try and blame me for the issues, saying I shouldn’t park outside(where in the paperwork does it say you must garage keep this car) they were very nice the first time I brought it in but have gotten extremely rude since. I even told the manage (who is only one to deal with me now) that they made me feel not wanted there, he had nothing to say. I can not believe that they are allowed to still sell these vehicles. I am beside myself as I have 2 small kids and if it rains or couple days after rain we can not drive my car due to smell and water. ….This has been the most expensive lemon I have ever bought. …

I have had no electrical problems though. The shrill sound you hear on left turns is the water entering your blower motor. Have you checked your a/c drain line? I drained mine a couple months ago and got about 4 cups of water out of it. It stopped the leak into my passenger floorboard. However the shrill sound and leak are back and my drain line is clear. I have sealed my rear sunroof, blew out my front sunroof, drained and cleaned the a/c line and sealed the frame under the windshield. I am out of ideas. The water leak had made my blower motor stop but I took it out and dried it and it started working again. My connector has melted for my blower motor though but I am not about to get another one until I fix wherever this leak is coming from. I would definitely check that drain line though.

The water somehow entered the AC/Heating system and accumulated in the bowl shaped blower motor access panel causing the blower motor to fail. Turns out the blower motor sits in 1 to 2 inches of water because of some sort of water back up. It also leaks water into the fuse area and the passenger side floorboard when making a left turn. There must be a recall for this problem as I can see its a widespread problem among GM brand Acadia, Traverse, Enclave, and Vue vehicles. General Motor needs to do the right thing for its customers.

I had the car for 3 months and had to have it towed to the dealer. They claimed it started when they went to look at it. I picked up the car and nothing happened until Oct 2016. The sound system, the turn signal, the back up camera warning sound, all sound stopped. Then on Nov 24, 2016 I was at the grocery store and the car would not start (crank no start). The next day after Triple A boost the battery and turned the a/c off still it did not start until later that afternoon when I had called for a tow, then he said try it again and it started. I drove it home and let it run thinking I needed a battery. I bought a $200 battery and went to the mall. 6 hours later the battery was drained, the car was back to “crank no start”. I got a rental the next morning and spent the rest of the morning waiting for a tow to the dealership and then discussing the issue with the service guy and he asked me about any water leaks inside the car. It’s now Monday and the service guy calls to tell me there is a leak behind the dash. The fuse box assembly needs to be replaced $680, more diagnosis needed to find out where the water is coming from of $132 – $164 and the battery did not cause the problem. Also the seat and floor coverings need to be removed to dry along with checking other modules in the floor which would be an added cost of $800 plus. WHAT!? I am not happy with this lack of a recall or concern when someone had purchased a $50k vehicle only to have water damage it due to no fault of you own. My ACADIA is a Lemon and I want my money back ASAP!!

I also purchased the extended warranty. Last month, during a heavy rain storm, my daughter told me water was dripping on her in the 3rd row seat. We turned on the light, and the overhead light was full of water and dripping on her. Took it to local dealer and they said they would need to take down the headliner to diagnose issue. They said it was leaking around the seal on the sunroof. Warranty company said they only cover mechanical/electrical issues. Car dealership I bought it from says not their problem. Car dealership it is at for repairs says there is nothing they can do except charge me $600 to fix it. I asked them to check with GMC as there are many complaints about this issue. I also called GMC myself and opened a claim, but the guy said they probably would not pay. Technician at dealership said this is a “known manufacturing defect” (exact words he told my insurance adjuster who will also not pay the claim because there was no impact or damage, just a leak) He said when the roof panels were stamped during manufacturing, it left some imperfections and as the seal wore down it allowed for leaks. If this is all true, shouldn’t GMC be responsible for repairs? I know it is a 2008, but it was in pristine condition when we bought it. The entertainment system still had plastic on the screen and headphones were still unopened in original factory packaging. Please advise.

He told me no. The first rain storm we had my passenger floor was completely soaked and there was a steady stream coming in from the door panel under the glove box. It has happened every time there is rain or snow. I have also noticed it happening on my driver side. There is no water damage on my roof (indicating a leaking sunroof) but I have no idea where it is coming from. Has anyone had this problem fixed? My car also doesn’t start now and I’m thinking it is because my battery compartment is so full of water.

This POS. nothing but problems from the beginning. Within a month it was the transmission, engine control module, replaced 3, yes 3 alternators. Over two grand in major repairs. Now we are a week from driving to Disney and the damn thing won’t start. There’s a wire harness in the passenger door that was pouring water out of it. This truck is a nightmare!!

The car was in the shop after only having the car for 2 days. I was without the car for 2 weeks. I have 2 small children and the struggle was very real. I took it back to the dealearship and he told me that the problems were minor and that I should have purchased a new car. My truck leaks water on the passenger and diver side. My floors are drenched in water and I am not sure where it is coming from. I called gm and they told me that I must first take it to a certified dealership to diagnose the problem at my expense. This will be the second diagnosis at my expense. I believed in the gm brand, but I have now lost faith in them. This is very dangerous and could result in a serious occurance. I just want my vehicle fixed without any cost to me. I can’t continue to invest all of my money into something I can’t live in. -signed a frustrated mother.

After the vehicle was paid in full, like many others, I have a water problem as well! I have no idea where the water is coming from, but both the driver and passenger front floors are soaked with standing water when it rains. I also have mold in the car. I have no idea what to do or what can be done, other than blow the water out, which we do on a regular basis, and it still does not solve the problem. Has always used Mobil 1 5w30 oil. Fuel mileage has always been great if you don’t compare it to the imports. Only gets 23 to 24 highway, depending on the wind. Still has original spark plugs and original brake pads even though when taken in for a headlight recall at 181,450 miles was told front and rear brakes needed 750.00 dollars to repair. It has been nearly 120,000 miles.brakes still working great. Just another reason to stay away from any dealership, they all seem to be motivated by greed. As for as water leaks, seems like there could have been a better design as for as the size of the drain tubes needing to be at least twice the size they are. I keep my drain tubes cleaned out using plastic cord for my commercial weed trimmer, just a tad smaller than five sixteenth’s. Only takes five minutes. Hopefully all you folks can find honest and independent mechanic. Stay away from the dealerships even though you have warranty that isn’t worth the paper it is written on. Good luck. Ps, I have no intention of trading vehicles any time soon.

Most of the water is on the driver side but it also leaks on the passenger side, has leaked through my dvd in the second row and even in the back where the third row lights are. I’ve taken it in at least five times over these not even two years for the leaking and I’ve been told that they can’t find where it’s leaking or they’ve changed the seals, or cleaned the drain tubes out. None of which has worked with the water. The dealership has paid for the repairs each time because I think they know about the whole problem but won’t say anything about it. I am sitting here waiting for them to be done looking at it again and the drain tube was just cleaned out a week ago! I’m about to just tape the thing up because I am beyond done with this issue! I wish I would’ve researched more before I bought this thing. I hate Ford but I’m thinking of buying one next after all of this.

I took it back under warranty over and over and it was never resolved. Of course now my warranty is out and it’s pouring rain in NC this month and I’m getting wetter driving than if I would just walk to work. UGH.

Same old story… leaking water on floorboard when it rains – on footrest on driver side and by fuse box on passenger side. Last month, car was dead – would not start. Took it to closet Buick dealership and was told that there was a “parasitic draw” on the battery due to water damage to fuse box. The fix was a new battery (second one since purchasing) and fuse box to the tune of about $800.00. Dealer blamed the aftermarket windshield replacement as the reason and wanted to replace it and the interior carpet for about $2k. No thanks. Had the windshield looked at separately – they found nothing wrong with it and suggested that it was drainage from sunroof.

I was informed GM was working on permanent fix. No call to date! I just took in to dealership today for leak in front windshield and water damage to headliner. I was told that they could not find leak. Then I was told that that is the way GM is making headliners ( ragged and turning loose). My suv was bought 10-28-2018 it is now 1-22-2019. It has 1838 miles. If they think this is going to rest–HA HA.

Brought it back for warranty work, and after the warranty expired, sunk thousands into fixing it. The last GMC dealer was paid over $6000 to fix everything. They had it in their parking lot the day I picked it up. It had been raining, and after I went home, got in to start it up for work, the battery was drained. I had just replaced the battery, which turns out that happened after it rained as well. When I brought it back to the dealer and told him of the issue, he said I needed a new battery. He never said there was a known issue with this. It is sad that this had been happening for YEARS and they said nothing about it; two different GMC dealerships gladly took my money to fix my AC and other issues, but never said a word to me. The last three times I came to them, about the leak, battery, and mold, they never said anything to me about other people having the same problem.

Good luck getting them to own it.

Drove it home and parked it for 3 days while I was out of town, came home on a super rainy day and it was leaking from the passenger headliner and down the side pillar onto the floor. a week later, parked at my work, rained most of the day, and the water was leaking from the center top control center all over the counsel and cupholders had water in them. It’s at a body shop today trying to figure this out. Bought the thing out of warranty and no warranty from the dealership. Any one have any suggestions.

Now it is leaking water when it rains but this time it is from the header where the sunvisor joins the roof line. There is also water at the base of the sun roof.

The first time it happened was only 2 years after I bought the vehicle which was new. Keep in mind in the first 2 years i owned the vehicle it was constantly garaged and rarely used except on weekends. This Is only one of multiple issues I have experienced since the first two years of ownership with no responsibility from General Motors to face up to the defects affecting most owners. Now thinking of it my parents GM cars all leaked after 2 or 3 years of ownership and they were garage kept and didn’t even have sunroofs.

I brought it today to the gmc dealership in our town to get it inspected, it read that we had a bad battery so they are installing a 420 dollar one, not mentioning that this morning. I encountered water running down the control center all over the counsel and cup holders, we are getting the battery installed, they wanted me to leave it to inspect the water leak but we can’t afford leaving it right now so I will have to bring it back in a few weeks to get looked at. Any advice? Since our bumper to bumper it’s already expired and we have to pay cash, does the full coverage insurance cover any of this problems? We weren’t really expecting this vehicle to have this many problems and we didn’t check reviews before buying it either, we just wanted a family car and it’s already being a nightmare and we’ve only had it for 3/4 weeks, I am devastated

Since I bought it from the dealership it’s been nothing but problems. It’s been a year half. Noticed yesterday while raining. Water proofing in on the floor board. While pulling of the road into a parking lot power steering stopped working. Seems like it doesn’t want to accelerate., So here comes another bill from the dealership. Unbelievable… Replaced parts so far… Battery, starter, radiator, exhaust, plus a few other issues. Tail light flickers as pleased…

The real problem is not the roof drain pan and drain tube but the rubber grommet that goes through the firewall. This grommet has a 4 tapered finger one way rubber valve molded into it. This valve requires a certain amount of water column pressure to open it. However, what happens is that small bits of trash migrate down to the valve before there is enough pressure and clog it up. Good design on paper but just doesn’t work in the real world. Remove the grommets and use something to remove the rubber fingers, I used a dremel tool with a type of drill bit, and then put it all back and your good to go. I understand that the one way valve it to prevent anything from coming from the outside to the inside, not sure what other than air but hey an air leak compared to getting drenched when I turn a corner in the rain and running my carpet is a fair trade.

Now that I have been here in Georgia and it rains a lot and noticed that the passenger side carpet is soaked. I checked and see there is no recall on for this even though consumers are having an ongoing issue with this problem. I hear the water moving around in the top of the car so I’m figuring that it must be clogged in the moon roof. The car is paid for is the only saving grace but really would like to get it fixed. I might try going in myself and unclog the drains. Made an appointment to go to dealership but probably will not because it will cost a grip of money to get them to repair it.

We take the car to South Carolina in the winter and that’s when I noticed the rear floor carpets were wet under the mats. I took the car to the local dealership in February of 2017 and theycleared the drains . The problem reoccurred over the summer but seemed to fix itself. The battery died in August and the car had to be towed back to the dealership and a new battery was installed. It is now January 2020 and we are back in South Carolina and the car is in the dealership with the same problem- water accumulating on the floorboards in the drivers and passengers side of the vehicle.

And apparently with no acknowledgement of responsibility but GM. I have a few months left on the warrantee and will certainly look into what rights I have under the lemon laws in New York. Given the multitude of common problems with leaking on these vehicles, I think a class action suit should be initiated.

Water leaks from the getgo. Seems that the production line forgot to seal multiple body seams. Around the sunroof drain, behind the dash near the AC unit and after that still water. Now they are still trying to find the other leaks.

Monday will be my third visit to the dealer to repair a leak on a 2017 GMC Acadia. Still under warranty, yet they wanted a $180 assessment fee last time. I’ve bought American my whole life…but after this and my Ford problem….I’m unfortunately rethinking that.
