2015 Chrysler 200 Transmission Problems

January 15, 2016
By: Robert Silverman

Many years ago, we wrote about the stalling problem with the 2011 Chrysler 200, and believe it or not, we still receive an occasional call regarding the problem. However, a much larger issue has monopolized the phone lines as of late — 2015 Chrysler 200 transmission problems leaving drivers with check engine lights, harsh shifting, and the occasional loss of power.

2015 Chrysler 200 transmission problems stem from the new 9-speed automatic transmission that was designed for the vehicle. As in the case of many new features, there are a variety of transmission, electronic, and software glitches that are driving customers crazy. In addition, being that the transmission is relatively new, many 2015 Chrysler 200 drivers have to return to the dealer again and again for transmission service because it seems as though no fix is permanently resolving the transmission defect for good.

If the check engine light is coming up repeatedly on your dashboard, you feel your transmission is slipping, you are experiencing a loss of power, and/or your dealer is constantly updating or replacing your transmission control module (TCM), you may have a claim under State Lemon Laws or the Federal Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. Potential remedies could include a full repurchase, a brand new car, or even if the problem is eventually fixed, significant compensation to reflect the diminished value of the vehicle as a result of the transmission problem.

As a firm that has already successfully resolved numerous claims surrounding 2015 Chrysler 200 transmission problems, we cannot stress the importance of looking into your rights, creating a solid paper trail of invoices, and speaking with a Lemon Law Lawyer in your state regarding the matter. After all, these consumer laws give you the power even if the transmission is leaving your car powerless.

I’ve had my car to the garage many times. The first time was a software update. I had no power. At this time the car only had 300ish miles on it. Other times it was for jerking or shifting hard. Was told since the computer is NOTthrowing a code we can’t tell or help you. Now when pulling out of my parking space at work the comes to almost a complete stop then will go. I’ve called chrysler and all they could tell me is if I’m not satisfied keep taking the car back. Worst car I ever had & will never have another or recommend it. I’m in negative equity with this damn car now & im stuck. Does it take a bad accident or deaths for them to fix this issue that I’m sure they are very well aware of but refuse to help consumers. Way to go chrysler.

My chrysler 200 2015 has the exact same issue and in that exact order. 2nd time in the shop in less than 2 weeks and they say “be patient with us”. Just got it out of the shop and again the gears are sticking so bad that my 10 year old sister asks “what’s wrong with your car”. I am also between a rock and a hard place.

My 2015 chrysler 200 s is going back into the shop for the 12th time. Check engine light is on and just got it out the shop 2 days ago. It kept trying to shut off. They had it this time for 6days. Worst car ever.

I live in Texas and I’m having these exact problems you mentioned with my 2015 Chrysler 200 Limited. Every time I take it to the dealership they address the recalls, update software, and a week later I’m having the same problems with the trans slipping and losing power. It has left me on the side of the road and the side of the freeway multiple times and has almost caused me to hit another car and another car to hit me. I’m recorded video of this happening and have invoices from each visit to the dealership. How hard is it to get them to buy this POS back? I don’t want another Chrysler and I don’t want them to keep “fixing” it. I only have 3k miles left on the 3 yr 36k mile warranty. please help

I purchased my 2015 200 Chrysler I did all the recalls they told me to come get fixed I swear it stays in the shop more than what I have the car. Something wrong with the brakes the air bag light comes on, the emergency brakes pops on while I’m driving. The car shut off while I was driving on the freeway car stopped so hard I got choked with the seatbelt luckily I made it out safe. I put the car in the shop and got into a rental same day after complaining to Chrysler then I got hit In the rear end with the same exact 2015 200 Chrysler the lady that hit me told me she couldn’t stop the car I was take away in the ambulance my hip and my leg is in pain everyday this happened in May of 2016 I got a call from Chrysler the same day of my accident i told them I called and came into the shop complaining about this car and they said yes I’m looking at that now I say well I was in an accident they said well I’m so sorry to hear that and can we set up a payment smh Chrysler doesn’t give no Fuck about the ppl they putting in these cars I can’t trade it in because it will be negative equity so basically I’m fucked. 2015 Chrysler 200, purchased August 2015 now has 40,000 I think the odometer is clocking double miles because there’s no way I drive that much. The past few days the car has loss power, this happened about 4 months ago for the first time. I was on the e way and it just loss power and promoted me to put the car in park. Today the traction light, check engine light, and battery light all came on the dash. I have a one year old, reason I purchased the car, not only do I not feel safe but I’m terrified of being rear ended. Dealership says car is burning oil and needs to be tested to see why… sounds like BS to me. Help!

I brought my first 2015 Chrysler 200 back in march. It had about 36000 miles on it. I loved it but then I had to get a tire fixed. Then I heard a noise in my front end. They gave me the run around till I went some where else n just had them look at it. I took it to Chrysler and told them what the other mechanic said. So they looked at it and realized my control arm and front struts were bad. This was like three months after I got it. I had a rental for a week or two. Got my car back n less then two weeks I was leaving home n my front end completely fall apart on some train tracks. Even the tow had problems getting it move. So we find out they forgot to put a bolt to hold it all together. I could have died if I was on the highway were I was going. So they gave me a check for all the payments I made and gave me a new car. So now I have a 2015 Chrysler 200 with only 17,000 miles. I’ve had it two months n its been in the shop for two weeks now. The check engine light kept coming on. The first time I took it in they reprogrammed something. Two days later it came back on so then they said they had to take my transmission out. I was so mad at this point. Made two payments and already my transmission had to come out. So I pick it up today and they had to take it apart piece by piece to replace the snap ring and clutch I guess. Not even 20000 miles. I will never get another Chrysler ever and as soon as I can get out of this loan n with other dealer im going. The service sucks. Sales was awesome but their service part is horrible. I even had them put a automatic starter on it and that I even had to go back a few times till they got it right. I love the car but way to many issues. Haven’t even been with Chrysler a year n I’m over them already. When I picked my car up it had a sheet of ice on it with a pile of snow so when I went to leave I had to clean it off myself as they all walked around watching me. I was out there for 45 mins cause I didnt have a ice scraper. I used a marker from work cause that’s were I was going after. I was not dressed to do all that so I was frozen when I left. So disappointed in the fellows that work there. I know its not part of their job but sparing a few mins to help wouldnt have cost them anything. Especially after everything I’ve been through with them.

Same problem as everyone…my car have been in shop for recall once then for check engine light couple months later, Then i received another recall. The problems was getting worse stalling out so i took it to O’ Riley they told me the problem before the 2nd recall came out (transmission module) but the service guy was so upset that I told him what I knew to where he treated me like crap I been afraid to take it in to them every sense, but i had too my car would not start at work they charged me $300 saying it was the battery but problem still continues. I have arugued and everything to where im tired i hate this car and regret getting it the performance is horrable. Too many issues to list PLEASE DONT PURCHASE!!!!

I’m going through a lemon lawsuit, where chrysler offered me 3,000 dollars to go away… what is 3,000 gonna do me when this car has no resale value and is still defective… my warranty is up in 7,000 miles…plus the net equity leaves me with no options if they r not forced to buy it back… do I have any other options?

27th day in the shop. 4th visit and now I have an open ticket with Chrysler. She said they were going to do everything they could to fix the issue. Good luck. I lave 19k miles on it and this all started 4 months ago. I want out of this car. It goes into limp mode and “bucks” down the road. I think the guys in service are as sick of me as I am of them. I sincerely wish Chrysler would just recall all of these cars. So very, very unsafe.

If you are working with a lawyer, seek their counsel on if you have the ammunition to go for more. Without all the facts, it would be impossible to provide any more info on the matter.

I have a 2016 Chrysler 200 Limited. Worse car ever. I’ve had new cars before, no problems until Chrysler. My brother and Cousin both purchased brand new Sebring and 300. Nothing but issues. They warned me not to get one. My car (where do I begin): check engine light several times, transmission “stop and go” in busy traffic, persistent burning coolant smell, replaced radiator, replaced engine harness (mind you a recall part that I never was notified of), endless transmission codes, the list goes on. I just got an attorney after finally speaking with a snide, monotone customer service manager and being promised phone calls and never receiving any. Please do yourself and get an attorney. Do not try to trade these cars and get in more debt with negative equity. We work too hard for our money to give it away. I will keep everyone posted on the progress on my case.

I really like the car but for me to make the same mistake twice i would be an idiot not an option…Chrysler get yourself together this is not fair to consumers!

They said it was because they suppose to drive like a “golf cart”. I had to get serveral updates. This last time my life was coming on saying service air bag system. Toke it in got it fix, Same day miliage started blinking called and they said i had to bring it in again for reconfiguration. Having the same issues as a majority of everyone on here. Upon purchasing this 2015 Chrysler 200 I had to take it to the dealership due to very harsh shifting. They told me it needed to have the CPU “flashed” to update it. Took the car back no more than 3 months later for the same issue. “Flashed” the transmission again. Dealt with the harsh shifting for months again after that until the car started to lose power while driving. This was very scary on one occasion due to the fact I was turning off of a major highway across traffic when the power failed due to the transmission. At this point I had moved from Indiana to Colorado. Took the car in and basically had to fight with the dealership to really diagnose the problem. Turned out it was a transmission failure and they changed the transmission. 3 months after changing the transmission the car was back to its usual harsh shift. Need out of this car. Paying 500 a month for a car that is a nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!! Called Chrysler today and they “opened a case” have to take it back to the dealership tomorrow. What are my options here? Chrysler needs to be held accountable for this. 5 times in the shop for the same problem. LEMON

I called dealer the dealer recommend to put it under warranty for repairs and every time I ask about recall they say no recalls for my vehicle. Today same issues jerking not taking off properly and now even after oil change it smell like something burning under my hood I ask dealer they reccomand getting fluids flush due to my millage being at 40,000 .really so why when millage was at 20,000 it always smelled like oil was burning or something and I pay over $50 for my oil change. I told my fiance company they can come and pick this piece of junk up I’m not about to keep paying $400 a month. Not to mention I can’t go through car wash the gears shift always get stuck when I’m trying to pull out of car wash I have a hard time switch shifter from neutral to drive.

I have had my car in shop numerous times since getting this hunk of junk for all the same reasons (shifting hard, running rough, hesitant when giving gas etc) and now I am alos losing power. Had battery, alternator checked and all good there. Cleaned battery cable with recommended stuff and reconnected and still doing it and now giving me all kinds of errors. I have also emailed Chrysler with absolutely no response. Dealer hooked up everytime prior and said they were not getting anything so nothing they could do. Have had in for all recalls done prior. Now I will be contacting dealer AGAIN since I just got stranded AGAIN at a restaurant out of town. RIDICULOUS

I will not go into the shady practices of the dealership that sold us a 2016 Chrysler 200, however, after driving it off of the lot and driving onto an on ramp for I-95, some 200 miles, the vehicle lost power. Have only had the car for 2 months and have lost power approximately 8 times since driving it off the lot. Trying as we speak to arrange a buyback from Chrysler. Getting jerked around about even bringing it into a dealership to check it out. Needless to say the vehicle is still under factory warranty with only 243 miles on it when we bought it. Dealership wouldn’t give a loaner car unless they can reproduce the issue. From researching the issue, I can see that this problem has been occurring since 2011 and it has not been resolved. I am contacting the Attorney General of the state I bought it in and the state where I live. This is crazy. I believe the original dealer knew of this problem and sold us the car anyway.

I’m currently siting at the dealership again. I bought my 2015 200 in Oct of 2014. About 2 months after I get a warning light. The first of many. I had the transmission go on me while I pulled it of a parking spot and twice while driving one of which I had my kids in the car. My car was in for the transmission for 23 days before they put in a brand new transmission. Even with the new transmission I’m experiencing the jerking, shift changes, delayed acceleration etc.. Now I have a new problem again while driving with my kids the service airbag light comes on. Hey guess what when that light comes on it means the airbags are not working.. Great. They fixed it in July and now they are changing the wire harness. I have had numberous calls to Chrysler and they will not escalate the problem relating to the car. ” I don’t have a name” is what I’m told. The car has cost me more money than anything between the extra gas to drive it back to the dealer and all of the car rentals I’ve paid for. I hate this car, it’s not safe nor can I sell it as I wouldn’t feel right putting someone else in this position in my right mind. This is the first and last time I will ever buy any Chrsler car. Till they do something I’ll just continue to tell my story to more and more people. Have a nice day.

I’m having problems with it jerking while I’m stopped at a light.. It doesn’t shift properly and never seems to wanna shift into 9th gear… The car only has 48000 miles in it… Tomorrow in taking it to the dealer for the first time since I’ve purchased it… hopefully the fix it right because i sure can’t afford to keep dealing with this… I don’t make much money as it is…

I just purchased my 2015 Chrysler 200 at the end of July with 23,000 miles on it, and I thought I was crazy when the jerking first started happening, but them my son and my husband both told me that I needed to call the dealership and bring it in. I brought it back to the dealership where I bought it and was told that they didn’t have time to do a test drive then and to bring it back on another day, and that if it did have a problem, it was going to have to go to a Chrysler dealership, so I decided to take out the middle man and called a Chrysler dealer today and was told that if the car is not throwing any codes or lights that Chrysler will not even look at the vehicle transmission or anything else, and that is how I found out everyone is having the same issue.. I should have done my research 🙁 I’m going to try to trade it in tomorrow afternoon, but I owe more than the piece of crap is worth… I’m so angry

Almost got hit by a big truck due to transmission acting up. A passenger and a child with me. Emergency brake lock at times, window rows down whenever it feels like it. Key entry doesn’t work most of the time. Car jerks you around. I fear for my life and the lives that are with me when in this car. Dealer ship wont stand behind me on this. I have the same harsh shifting, service transmission light and engine light situation as all of the others. I have had my 2015 Chrysler 200s since May 2014. I have taken it in for the transmission twice. The first time they did some update and said it should be better, but it wasn’t. The second time I took it to a different Chrysler dealership to only be told they will test drive it but I would have to pay if I wanted a diagnostic test. Why? They already know these cars have problems with the transmission. Now, the transmission practically shut down on the highway on my way to work this morning. I have 69,000 miles on the car and still owe about half of the car’s selling price. They should recall all of these cars before people get hurt and/or lose their lives. Do I have any recourse?

They had me come in 3 times, (500 mile intervals) and told me my engine was consuming the oil too fast which was causing the car to cut off. They replaced the engine and my car only had 45,000 miles. That was two months ago, now I turn on the heat and the drivers side is warm but the passenger side is cold air. Bring it in today and a motor is shot.. The cost would be $421 to fix because it isnt covered. I have the 200c 2015 fully loaded, always had camry’s but my 2012 camry was totaled in July 2015 and I didnt like the new model so I made the dumb mistake of going with this mess.

My camry has always held its value, I always traded it in every 4 years and would get into a new one with the previous car paid off. Now, I am sitting in a car that was originally 28k when I bought it, decided to trade it in because all i see are problems ahead and the value is like 8k to 12k.. What the hell??? What a hard lesson to learn.

A few weeks later the same message appeared while I was taking the car to have the oil changed. This time they tell me that the transmission is leaking from the transmission cooler lines and quick disconnects. And they tell me its not covered under the warranty. Note: I purchased the extented warranty from the dealership. They wanted roughly 580.00 to do the work. Since the parts weren’t covered I purchased the parts from the dealership and had another mechanic replace them. A week later I have to take it back to the dealership because of an oil leak. They had to replace the oil cooler lines which was covered under tbe warranty. The following week took it back to the dealership because the AC wasn’t working. They fixed the AC and proceed to tell me that tbe transmission lines are leaking. Then they tell me its covered under the warranty. They fix it and refund my money for parts i bought. On the way home the car is still shifting hard and twice it came out of gear. The display says ” put gear in P and select gear”. How am I suppose to do that on the interstate doing 65? Also, the car is slowing down all by itself. Lucky I wasn’t rear ended.

Sometimes won’t go over 30 miles an hour. Check engine light does not come on and stay on it is not storing any codes in the vehicle it has told me to service the throttle body position sensor as told me to service the parking brake. My windshield wiper fluid does not work. It loses power and left me in the middle of an intersection with and the vehicle would not come out of Drive and I had to manually take the vehicle out of gear and when that was done it was flashing it was in drive..and push it out of the intersection. Sometimes when I turn my car off it goes into accessory mode instead of the off position. Traction control light continues to come on with the parking brake, other times the park assist turns on some times when driving slow. Other times it comes on and i cant get it to shut off without restarting the car several times.I have brought it into Chrysler and they told me nothing was wrong with it and these problems are on heard of then I brought it into Chrysler again and they told me that they can’t find any problem as everything has tested normal with it and told me just to take it home. I have all the proof recorded on my phone. How do we start a class action lawsuit? ??? And get rid of the car and the loans befor we all end up killing our self or someone els due to their ignorance???!!!!!!! Took it to the dealership and they told me it was nun they could do because no lights was on. I continued to drive and it got worse. And I realize when I came to a complete stop I could have my foot on the gas to go and my car wouldn’t move until I lifted my foot up and put it back down. Then one day I didn’t drive it for about a week and a half cuz I would drive my Ma truck , I went to finally drive it and the battery was dead I guessed. So I tried to boost it off and it took about 30 to 45 minutes to finally cut on. When it did the car wouldn’t go. I put it in reverse and hit the gas and nun happened. I put it back in park then drive and it finally moved. But my car wouldn’t go pass 15 MPH. And the service light was on. I was like it’s no way. And on top of that I smelled a burning smell . The next morning I turned the car on and it was running fine. But i still took it to the dealership and they told me the same thing. Because my light wasn’t on it’s nun they could do. The light went off the next morning when I turned the car on. So maybe 6 months later my brakes seem like they was getting back. So I took it to the dealership and they said it was something wrong with my braking system or something like that. So I set a appointment for them to check it. Mind you I just got my oil change and they checked my car out and said everything was fine. Then it was Friday night I was otw home from work and my car was driving fine. But then I woke up Saturday morning to go to work and I was already running late. My car wasn’t start. It didn’t do anything. I tried to boost it and nun happened. I’m so sick of this car. I am having the same issue with my 2015 Crystler 200! One month to the day I had hard shifting in my car, took it in and they couldn’t diagnose. Time after time couldn’t duplicate, diagnos and just did a software update. Now, two years later, they are replacing the valve we will see if this works? I have made several complaints and lucky for me lemon law expired a year ago! I feel very unsafe in this car. The hard shifting sometimes throws us forward in the car, when coming onto the highway from a ramp the car will not shift and just stays in first gear so I come off the ramp going 20 something with cars going 70 to 80 mph! I feel like I’m going to cause an accident and feel so unsafe! The shifting has no rhyme or reason except for shifting from first to second. Here recently I have had trouble starting it as there is no power! I have finally had enough I called the manufacturer and made a complaint which is supposed to be expedited, we will see. I’ve taken it in and talked to the dealership over and over from a month after I purchased the car to now! I just made a complaint with NHTSA this is a government department of transportation area which monitors complaints and safety issues! If you do not feel safe in this car, please file a complaint with them it is so easy and may help us all! Their number is 1-888-327-4236! Or go to https://www.safercar.gov/ I wish I could have done something sooner!

I have a 2017, brand new never owned before. Bought Feb of 2017 and by October I had problems with the acceleration. It would stop and wouldn’t go past 30 mph on numerous occasions. I’ve had it towed twice for that and on one occasion after it was “fixed” I made it a mile from the dealership and it did it again. One morning it wouldn’t crank, the message board said the throttle needed to be serviced and the engine temperature was too hot.. it was 30 degrees outside and sat cold all night. So they replaced the battery and the temperature gauge stays on the cold side. I called Chrysler to open a case after the third part they replaced for the acceleration problem and they kept having me take the car back to the dealership. I kept bringing up that it is having problems shifting gears and it jerks when it shifts or doesn’t accelerate as fast as it should be sometimes. The dealership said nothing was wrong and Chrysler wanted me to keep a log and wait for it to happen again. I’ve already almost wrecked because of this issue twice. The dealership I bought it from gave me a number to call and the managers wouldn’t talk to me. The number was a sweepstakes hotline. Everyone kept writing me off. I have an attorney looking into it and hope to get answers. Has anyone else from Georgia had any luck?

My 2015 chrysler just started doing something close to what I am reading in this thread. It seems as if it is switching to performance mode while I am driving on its own but I think it is just stalling out and sticking in first gear. I then have to pull over turn it off and back on and then drive till it happens again. This kicked the check engine light on as well as the traction light. Then the dealership wants to charge 150 to diagnose it!!! Straight bs!!!

Got the Transmission Service + Check Engine Light going down the HW and lost all power. Turned the car off and on again and was able to drive it off to side road. What options do I have if the car is from a 3rd party and with no warranty?

I haven’t had my 2015 Chrysler 200C for a year yet. I’ve expressed multiple problems to the dealership in which I purchased a extended warranty on because it was a Chrysler alone. I hear a knocking noise coming from the front often, the service man couldn’t hear it so nothing was done. Some how all the stalling problems, jerking and delayed acceleration issues have been because of the oil needing more or a change, which is expensive. Most recently, on June 21st 2018, I started my car as normal to leave from work.. got on the side street and three different lights came on, engine light, my traction control light and some light that was blinking ( was a lighting bolt with )*( to it) … I assumed it was the battery or maybe the transmission. the jerking began right away, then it wouldn’t accelerate past 32 mph! I was holding up traffic with no idea what was wrong. I was too scared my car wouldn’t start again. I take it back to the dealership and they call me today, june 22nd 2018 and tell me “believe it or not, it was 2 qtz low on oil and the valves to open and close require oil to do and they weren’t opening to allow acceleration past 32mph.” and the guy laughed. Then recommended me bringing the car in every 2,000 miles for routine oil checks… why is my car burning through so much oil? The dealership is the only company who’s changed my oil since I purchased it. This is insane to me!

First the radio/back up camera went out, then the thermostat, then the battery NOW TODAY IT CUTS OUT IN THE AIRPORT, AGAIN ON THE FREEWAY, THEN AGAIN AT GAS STATION. 2 Tow trucks and 2 dealership visits in one day. The first dealership claims the reset tcm and some other codes but sent me back on the road only to drive from Charlotte to Greensboro then it stopped again. Now it’s at the dealership and I’m in a rental car. My kids and grandkids were in the car it was very dangerous and scary. After looking at the other stories I’m even more scared and furious. I’m done with that car. I’m getting a lawyer asap. I’m going to be persistent and this is gonna stop. I don’t got money to throw away and I value my life. I’m pissed. I did as they told me and got a oil change. I have always gotten an expensive oil change ranging from $80-$90 and the company I get my oil changed with always tell me I’m getting the best of the best but something is causing my oil to burn fast. So I will be going back to Chrysler Wednesday but I too have no lights on the car will literally cut off in the middle of me driving while I have my 6 year old in the car with me. It has done it on the freeway as well as on the street. I am totally lost on what to do, but I definitely want out of this car as it is not safe for myself nor my child. It is currently sitting in my parking lot as it has been for the past week until my appointment at Chrysler on Wednesday. My car is at about 54,000 miles I’m curious to know what are my options at this point because this is unsafe for my child and I.

Periodic jumping during shifts, experiencing vehicle failing to start at all, tranny light on, shuts down in accessory mode which seems to drain the battery, etc. When I first bought it, someone had already had it for only 9 months, the Car Fax said there were no prior accidents although it immediately had to be repaired for damages. It was obvious that someone had an accident with it. RR has always made noises…etc… I read these comments that are familiar, to include equity loss and cost of repairs and rentals. Chrysler and my Special Coverage for the Car only pays $35.00 per day on rental, well today it costs $99.00 per day. Be nice to hear some good news.

Haven’t even had my car a year, it’s only had 1 owner besides myself, in the past couple months it would shift hard from 2nd to 3rd then sometimes 4th to 5th, other day I jump in it to go to work and the dash is filled with warning lights, cannot go in reverse or drive, cannot even shift into neutral. I shut the car off then restart it, luckily I was able to drive it to work, I had a mechanic shop come to my place of work to do diagnostic tests, they stated the transmission, the transmission sensor module etc. but that’s where it sat until it was towed to a Chrysler dealer why because it wouldn’t shift, as I start looking for recalls on this issue I find a ton of people with same issue, I called the dealer today to check and see what they figured out, he stated they weren’t totally thru the diagnostic tests yet, but my oil was 4 quarts low how convenient since it appears other dealerships try to pull the same shanningans, he said I possibly with have to have a new transmission my car has approximately 53,000 miles it’s my only form of transportation to take my teen daughter to and from the children’s hospital to see her specialists which is a 2 hour drive there and back. I pray Chrysler fixes my car the right way, I love this car it has been the nicest most comfortable car and has all the bells and whistles you could ask for, but now this, very disappointing. I will update you all as soon as I see what the dealership does to fix this issue.

In the last 2 weeks my car has stalled out twice while driving. Before that I noticed a lot of jerking when stepping on the gas and hard shifts between 3rd and 4th gears. This latest concern is a serious safety issue because I could have been in a serious or even fatal car accident when the car just stalls on the highway. Very upset!!

My check engine light comes on as soon as I hit 1/2 tank and stays on until I fill the car up again. This will make the 3rd time in 6 months I’ve taken my car in for these issues. Every time I get told the same thing. They either can’t find anything, my gas cap needed to be tightened up, updates needed to done, and/or they can’t recreate the issues I’m having. I’m ready to just get rid of this car and get something else. Another issue I’m having is when the check engine light is on the car will lose power and shut off. I drive on highways to and from work and this has made me very worried about driving the car anywhere.

I’ve been having problems with shifting, but it wasn’t anything major or too serious (so I thought), so I never thought anything of it. Just last week (11/1/2018) my check engine light came on. This was the first time this has happened since I got the vehicle. I immediately knew something was wrong (check engine light is never a good sign). Dropped it off at dealer’s shop the next day and it’s been there ever since. Called to see if there was any update. Service technician let me know that my 2nd cylinder (I have a v6=6 cylinders) was on 20, and normally it should be 140-160k. Now i have no idea what this means, but it sounds bad! I thought I was doing good by getting a newer car, but now looking at all these comments make me think I may have made the wrong decision when I chose this car. Looking for any ideas why this might be and could it have something to do with me having the car for only a year now? I only have 31k miles now

Just because the first person didn’t have any issues, doesn’t mean I won’t. Side Note: they are paying off my Jeep loan ($3890) and my payments for this vehicle are going to be $386 a month. My insurance is going up from $114 to $147. And the plates are $442! Should I just wait and pay off my Jeep and then trade it in? Any suggestions???

I have a 2016 200S and have had many of the same problems. The jerking as if a REALLY HARD shift that feels like you left your transmission laying on the road behind you. Or, you step on the gas and the car barely moves then all of a sudden BANG hits 60 mph. Many, Many times I get the key fob not detected and have to dig through my purse to be able to use it to push ignition. Or everytime you open a car door with the car running, it assumes the key fob left the car, when it is sitting in the console??? But the most aggravating is when you are in a hurry to get somewhere, you start car, and then the check engine light comes on, and the display shows “performance shifting not available” you can spin the gear shift forever, and it does not shift into gear. Then a message appears “Service Parking Brake”. Stopping and Starting the engine anywhere from 3 to 25 times will eventually rectify the situation so that you can drive. The check engine light will remain on for about 2 – 5 starts after that then it goes off. Cannot get to dealership because the light goes out before then, and they cannot check it if not on or cannot recreate issue. There is no rhyme or reason to why it happens. Has happened 5 times in last 7 months. Any ideas? Or what is my recourse? 21,000 miles on car.

I have a 2015 Chrysler 200 that I purchased in 2015 brand new. During the times where I’ve had the vehicle I’ve constantly complained about the transmission shifting very rough and oftentimes loss of acceleration power. After taking a vehicle back and forth to the dealership having the transmission control module flashed reprogram and reset they finally decide per Chrysler customer service to replace the transmission. Since I’ve had the transmission replaced the vehicle has been driving way better. It’s sad to say that it took me to retain an attorney for the transmission to be replaced there’s no reason why somebody’s to purchase a new vehicle and it drives like a piece of crap. Hopefully once my lawsuit with FCA is done I’ll be able to get enough money back while I’m able to get out of this vehicle. Also prior to me purchasing a vehicle brand new I found out that the vehicle was worked on five times prior to purchase and three out of those five times or relative to the transmission being worked on, so the dealership sold me this new vehicle in bad faith.

I owe 14 more thousand on my car just got it, 3 weeks ago hopefully this doesn’t happen. It kind of sounds like the Hyundai genesis and there faulty 8 speed transmissions. If I have further issues I’d like to have someone I can reach out to for any type of legal help in regards to owning a car with recalls .

I am having the same issues that I am reading about, shifting hard and jerking from 2nd to 3rd and accelerating when I am coasting to a stop. Scheduled to take into dealer I purchased it from on Tuesday, expecting to hear there is nothing wrong with it. And then I will be contacting the lawyer in my state.

I bought my 2015 Jeep Cherokee in March of 2016. It had 14k miles on it. It did ok for the first year, aside from some not-so-smooth shifting. Then almost exactly a year later, when driving on the interstate, at approximately 65mph, the “service transmission” light came on as well as the engine light. At first I didn’t notice the car running different. Then I slowed down to exit………….when I tried to accelerate again, I had ZERO power. Foot to the floor and nothing…not even revving of the engine. I was able to pull over and put it into park. Once in park the “service transmission” went off, but engine light stayed on. Then I put it into drive and it did fine…..in town. But once back on the interstate, I hit 60mph and “service transmission” came back on.
I did some research and came across a recall for 2014-2015 Jeeps for the 9 speed transmissions with all the same symptoms. It said those affected could go to a Jeep dealer and get a software update to fix the issue, for free. I called them. I gave them my VIN #. I was told that MY 2015 Jeep wasn’t part of the recall. Even though I have the same issues. I would have to pay for the update.
This problem came and went over the next 2 months while I researched furthur. It came time for an oil change and my husband changed the oil & filter along with the air filter.
After that, it seemed to magically stop. It didn’t do it again for a whole year.
Fast forward to Monday of this week (4/15/2019). Driving down the interstate I hit 60mph and it started it all over again.
                                                  This is super frustrating.

We purchased our 2015 Chrysler 200 back in January for my husbands work vehicle. The past 3 weeks (maybe longer) we have had similar issues. It stalls while driving where the dash will state put car in Park to restart (nothing else comes on dash). On a good day it will restart right away and bad days it takes longer, sometimes as if it has completely died. Now the check engine light , traction control and and another light that has to do with the Throttle body comes on. Today the car once again stalled and when I got it restarted it would not go over 30mph. The car only has 53k miles and I find it hard to believe the Throttle body is bad or now possibly the Transmission.
I have seen where there has been numerous recalls on this type of vehicle and wonder if the car was ever taken in for repair. When checking the database it says there is no recall on this car. I guess my question is if the repair has been completed and the same issues are happening will Chrysler continue to fix the issue. As people have stated these vehicles are extremely dangerous and I fear someone will end up dying.

Suffice it to say I will NOT be buying another transmission for the car and I only hope I can find a way further shed light on this situation.

No, I didn’t read all these comments, but has anyone had any success in getting Chrysler to own up to this issue?

Again, $7400 for a new trans. After it was replaced at 21K miles. Granted, now I’m at 155K. Yes, high mileage commuter. But easy driving in the metro DC area. Shouldn’t be replacing again!

So disgruntled. So sad. Had I only known. Chrysler should be ashamed!

After second try at the dealer and ACTIVE code was found and they are replacing the valve body. Fingers crossed, hope it works. I have had no problem for three years owning this vehicle and I love that it is fully loaded with every convenience that is made-but really–WHO needs 9 gears? Chrysler should get real with this transmission and stay with the tried and true of the line they have.

During the test drive, I noticed that the car did not pull off quickly and the salesman told me it was the “eco-system” that the car has to save gas. It’s been a whole month now and it has worsen to the point where I’m concerned. I have to put too much effort into getting across an intersection. While accelerating, the car does a small jerk when changing gears. Clear signs that the transmission is about to go. Sad thing is, these are the exact symptoms my previous car (2005 Honda Accord) was having right before the transmission blew. This is my 4th car within 5 years, all have broken down on me. Reading sooo many stories about this car has made me decide not to drive it anymore because my last car stalled on me while I was driving and it was a traumatic experience that I do not want to experience again. I feel like the manufacturers and dealerships are just playing with people’s lives and livelihoods. It’s not right!

Loves the car until day 3 when driving down the road the Service Transmission and Service parking brake light s go on then it down shifts to like 1st gear “limp mode” he pulls over, it wont go into park, puts parking brake on. He then turns the key off, tries to start it even though it’s in gear still with the and it starts. (even this is weird since most cars wont start unless in park or neutral.) but won’t move after releasing the parking brake. Called a wrecker took it back to the Chrysler dealer where it was purchased. They kept it for a few days said they changed the TCM and we were good. well was back to a nice car until March 2020. Did it again, had it towed and back to the dealer, they said they tightened a number of grounds and it was fixed. worked great until 1/7/2021. It did it again, figured Chrysler dealer couldn’t fix it so took it to our normal place, they had it for a week and could not get it to act up. We are worried that one of these times he won’t get pulled over fast enough and get rear ended. When it works it a wonderful car, but when your safety is at risk and you never know when it’s going to happen it’s scary. Has anyone got the remedy to this?

Hello everyone. I got my 2015 Chrysler 200 from the dealership today. I bought it used but I also bought it from a trust local dealership here and town that I know wouldn’t intentionally sell me something if they knew there was an issue, or they’d at least disclose that information prior to selling it to me. Nonetheless, while I was driving today the car randomly got stuck in 4th gear and wouldn’t allow me to up or downshift. I even attempted using the paddle shifters for what it’s worth and still nothing. I pulled over, put it in park, and tried putting it in gear but still nothing. I then tried turning the car off and back on, and still nothing but the display message of “performance shifting unavailable”. Although it wasn’t ideal, the car was still drivable so I fished my commute home and got it in the driveway where I repeated the same process except this time, the car turned back on and displayed no message. I pulled out and took it for a drive up my street and it shifted completely normally. Note, my check engine light also came on when this problem occurred, but there’s no pattern to this issue whatsoever. This has happened twice now and both times it’s happened in the 35-45 mph range but I’m not sure if that particularly has anything to do with it. This is already growing to be a very frustrating issue and I was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar whatsoever? Thanks!
